I got a HS a while back and the kickback coil was fried, so I replaced it. After that, it would usually send the ball partially up the right freeway, and it would roll back down in front of the upper flipper, setting up a nice ramp shot. But sometimes it would still be weak, so I looked at the drawing in the manual to see if there were any adjustments. There aren't, but I noticed the sleeve was installed backwards. I flipped it around and now it is stronger, but now everytime it shoots the ball directly into the post to the left of the freeway entrance. The ball bounces back with a lot of speed, sometimes going straight back down the kickback, draining. It is not as much fun as before, but it's been so long since I've played HS in the wild that I don't remember where the kickback is supposed to shoot the ball. Can anyone tell me? Is there any trick to adjusting this? Thanks-

Do you have the correct coil install? also is the kickback adjusted properly?

The coil is an AE-24-900 and the manual shows AE-24-900-01. Would that cause this issue?

I don't know what to adjust. There are 3 wood screws holding the mounting bracket to the playfield and 2 machine screws holding the coil bracket to the mounting bracket. I don't see how to adjust anything without bending one of the brackets, but I didn't want to do that unless it is necessary. I tried putting more padding between the armature and the bracket, thinking if it moved a shorter distance that it would move more slowly, but that didn't help. I swapped the spring with another solenoid spring that I had, but that didn't change anything.

The armature doesn't have a rubber tip like a ball shooter, but the drawing in the manual doesn't show one, and there's not room for one from a ball shooter.

Thanks-

I really don't know the difference between both coils but i would suggest putting in the exact coil# stated in the manual.

The coil is fine. Yes in some cases you do need to bend the bracket SLIGHTLY to get it shooting into the correct spot. Do it in small increments and you'll find the sweet spot.

google for details - I'm not sure but it's possible the -1 option means there's a diode and the coil you have maybe doesn't have it ?
at least check there's a diode present..

If the coil fires well in the coil test it'll probably be ok

I'd check the microswitch registers fine, is it possible it registers too late ?

Thanks all! There is a diode, and the coil tests fine. I probably added the diode when I replaced the coil. The switch tests fine in diagnostics, but I'll check to see if the trip wire is bent. I'll also try bending the bracket slightly and see if I can aim the ball better.
