i have everything purchased but a monitor at this point

-Double dragon PCB
-jamma harness
-power supply
-joysticks
-buttons
-speaker

and i will be making my own cabinet.. my question is do i have to have a coin accepter to make this game work? or is there a way to set it up so that i just don't need one at all...

like i said im building the cabinet myself so i really have no need or want to have a coin slot in it... but before getting to far ahead i wanted to make sure it wasn't something that was needed to get the game to work..

thanks for your help and if you see something i messed up on or anything that can help it would be greatly appreciated...

fred

the board might have free play. If not you need a switch/button of some kind. Doesn't need to be a coin door with a coin slot. Although I think having those things on a game makes them more authentic.

yeah i know what you mean but for this its just my first build and i just want to be able to enjoy the game... as i learn more and get more comfortable i'll take on restoring to original and taking pride in having the game as a whole... right now i just want to play it and have fun

Judging by the manual (found it here: http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/ARCADE/A-J/ ) it looks like having dip switch bank 2, switches 7 and 8 set to on will give you free play. It's also the two switches for setting number of lives, so I think it'd result in just being able to keep going over and over instead of having a number of lives per game/credit/whatever. Not all games have free play, so if you wanted at any point to put other games in there you'd probably want a credit button/switch somewhere.

Double Dragon appears to not have coin free play (checked in MAME, and on the dipswitch settings over at crazykong.com). So you'll need some way to coin it up. TK, I just tested it in MAME, what those 2 dipswitches do is give you infinite lives, so once you start a game, it'll just keep going until you shut it off. In MAME (which I assume a real machine would do also), it shows you have 9 lives, and the lives counter never goes down when you die.

yeah i don't wanna just go on forever... i want to still have the fear of death.. i bought another pushbutton... i'll hook that up for both player one and player two credits when its pushed... so killing to birds with one stone... and yes i do plan to use other games in it so i might as well go ahead and hook it up correct...

im just glad i don't need an actually coin collector... once i find a monitor im ready to roll!!!!!

No offense to klov but your questions about building a cab from scratch and much, much, much more can and will be answered at www.byoac.com
The coin "acceptor" is just another switch, it can be replaced with a regular pushbuton. You can see many examples of arcade solutions there.

Had a feeling based on it's placement in the dip bank that might be the case, thanks for confirming it.

when you drop a quarter in all it does is hit a switch, a switch that can be replaced wit a push button

they way your going it sounds like youd be much happier just taking a pc/monitor/keyboard encoder and some arcade buttons and making a mame system to play most any games you want

why not just buy a used cabinet ?

many cabs can be found for sale from $25-40 bucks and some nice ones $75-100 bucks with working monitor

bulding a cab seems like a pain in the neck but then why not go the whole way and grow your own wood ?

check around your area, wherever you are and there has to be an OP nearby that has an unused project laying around cheap.
or
do like many of us and check Craigs List 5 times a day for any deals

It's possible the OP has woodworking as another hobby. With the heavier focus than usual on making a cab in the posting/title I was assuming that at least. My dad's into woodworking and has said a few times he'd build me something if I got him a cad/similar file with the dimensions/angles/etc.
