Hi there...

I'm giving some thought to relocating one of my arcadeshop boards (currently in a Pac cocktail) in to a new cabinet with a trackball. I know there are several trackball games that it supports, but also spinners, like Arkanoid and Liberator. So I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the spinner games would work with the trackball. I know you can play these games (barely) with a joystick, but I'm thinking they'd be at least a little more playable with a trackball. Has anyone tried this? If so, how well does it work? Do I need any special harnesses for the trackball to function on this board? I've had a couple of these boards (one horizontal, another vertical) for a long time, but they've been dedicated to the cabs they're in and I don't even remember how to reprogram them, let alone whether I need any special connections for trackball games.

Thanks for any input!

i am familiar with the ArcadeSD and indeed Arkanoid will play with the trackball.
but the "gearing" isn't right so it is still very twitchy and tough.
It's fun but not like playing arkanoid with a real arkanoid spinner.

Thanks! I expected that if it worked with spinner games at all it would be a bit wonky, but it HAS to be better than the all-or-nothing movements of a joystick. I can't play any of those games like breakout and the like with a stick. It's terrible. If you can control the speed of the ball like the spin of the spinner the movement should be at least playable I'd hope.

I imagine the ArcadeSD architecture is similar to the arcadeshop board so hopefully it'll work the same. Thanks again!

oh... one more thing: Does anyone know if the arcadeshop board has support for VGA? I seem to remember hearing that it didn't (unlike the ArcadeSD). Wondering if I'd need to get a video adapter before installing it.

I've got another question about this board: does anyone know if it plays nice with Atari trackballs like the one in centipede? I've heard that these don't work well or at all with newer JAMMA boards but is that the case with the arcadeshop board too? I've got a couple of centipede trackballs but I'm getting the impression I'll need a new/modern one if I want it to work with this board or even a 60-in-1.

you can put newer optical boards in those happ trackballs and they work.
