Question about American Amusement Auction - May 21, 2011 - Mesquite, Texas

Hello everyone! I am new to the board and to collecting arcade games. My new home is finally nearing completion and I was hoping to find a Killer Instinct machine at the auction. This is my first auction and I plan on flying into Dallas from San Antonio and renting a U-Haul should I win any machines. Does anyone have any tips on bidding and what a fair price would be for a dedicated KI 1?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A better plan is to drive in and see what's there. There's a local Dallas guy (Noel) that can deliver your machines to you for a resonable rate. His run is between Dallas, Austin/SA, and Houston. What I do is drive a regular small car to the auction from Houston and whatever I win I get Noel to bring it home so I don't have to bother with renting a truck and wasting all the gas in case I don't buy anything. Also a dedicated Killer Instinct is hard to come by can get pricy if working and in nice condition.
I plan on being at both auctions on the 14th and 21st so if you I can introduce you to Noel and some other Klovers...

Thanks. I plan on flying because it is cheaper than driving my truck from SA :)

It is great that there is someone that delivers the machines. That will save a lot of time and money. I'll be there on the 21st for sure and would love to meet everyone. Thanks!

I paid $700.00 at an auction in WI for a dedicated KI. It was in beautiful shape, I played the game at the place when it first arrived some 17 years ago, and it never moved from where it was. The side art on it looks brand new. I went in with knowledge of the game.

I feel I got a great deal on it, but I had looked and looked for a while for a dedicated KI and hadn't seen much lately.

Thanks. It does seem to be pretty tough to find one in good shape. That will just make it more sweet when one comes along :)

How is the selection of pins at the auction?

Selection of Pins at the Dallas auctions tends to be good. The prices aren't though. There are a few bidders that bring the same machines to the auction each time and often end up buying them back. Some of the regular KLOVer's will be able to tell you who to what bidders to watch out for.

The challenge for me is getting some decent deals as I shop them fully and then flip on CL for a decent profit. If you're just buying for yourself then it is a bit easier as you aren't quite as concerned about profit margins.
