Hmmm, what could one put along this wall if the fireplace wasn't there?

Well, let's find out! :D

Looks like I'll be able to fit four machines along this wall. I'll probably have room for six once I'm done. That is, six without any complaints.

Man, I'd rather have the fireplace. Oh well. Enjoy!

The fireplace was worthless. The way we have the basement arranged and with how we use it, the fireplace is never used and never will be. All it did was take up space. Plus it was an insert with fake logs, not a real fireplace. I won't miss it at all.

In that case, I retract my previous comment. Except for that part about enjoying it.

Edit: Wait, that's a basement???

I got everything removed today. I now need to frame up the wall and put up drywall. I'm not sure if I'll have someone else finish the drywall work. My basement walls have a knock down finish. I don't really want to apply that myself and mess with it, I'd probably come out ahead if I had a pro come in. They'd have it done in no time.

My other problem is carpet for the area the hearth was located. I'll see if I can get something from a carpet store that is reasonably close. It will have pinball machines over it so an exact match isn't totally necessary. Plus matching beige/tan probably won't be too hard.

I grew up in California so what do I know? But somehow I always had the impression that basements were underground.

Mine is a walk out. If you aren't familiar with such things, the pictures probably wouldn't have given away the fact that it was a basement. Walk out basements are nice for pinheads. :) I can get a machine into the basement myself but I need someone to help me bring one back up.

I can't understand why they put the fireplace in the location it is other than because it was easy to vent it outside. It in no way works with the layout of the basement. In fact, I don't really think there is any location in my basement where a fireplace would make sense.

I think you're gonna need that WWF after all, to keep all of the sunlight away from your AFM and Star Wars. :) AFM fades really easily, not sure on Star Wars but I would guess that the red would fade some on it. Looks like it will be pretty nice when it's all done.

I'll tell my wife I need at least six pins to keep the sunlight away from the AFM.

Progress:

I decided to do everything myself after I found out you can get knockdown finish in a spray can. Now I need to find a piece of carpet to go in the hearth area.

Lots of sanding and more mudding to do.

I LOVE IT. lol

However, for resale purposes and the added value of a fireplace;
I would have made custom length rear legs for my pinballs and set it on the ledge.
This way you could have avoided all the work and major changes to that wall.
In any case, good job!

We plan on being in this house until we are old and senile, so resale value isn't a factor. I'd rather enjoy the house the way I want it rather than keep something around that someone else might enjoy. Plus it means I can have more pinball machines! Interesting idea though.
