Ok, here's the deal. The quotes I have are good until the end of June so I want to open preorders on these until June 27th. That will give me a day to make sure everything is organized on how many and who's paid. Once done the boardhouse says 3 weeks but it will probably be more like 2 weeks. Then I will ship them to everyone.

This is for the PCB Blank only, both sides will have green mask on them to save on any shorting by solder balls. It will also have silkscreen just like the original, same part references and test point values.

I was close on the price guess I made in my announcement post. But I can actually do just a bit better so what I am going to do is make it a flat fee including the shipping.

This is based on that I get preorders for 20

Price:
***************************************PRE-ORDERS ARE CLOSED*****************************************
$175.00 shipped anywhere in the U.S.
PM me if your local and want to do a pickup
PM me if your overseas

I also want to include something to help with those that want to build their own Quantum from scratch. You will need a programed PLA and PROM. The PROM is the same as the one on Space Duels, so you can copy that on your own if you wish. The PLA you will need from an original or I will be willing to program one for you.

Price:
$15.00 for just PLA programmed
$20.00 for both PLA and PROM programmed
$30.00 for Mark Spaeth AVG replacement

-- If you want one of each (PCB,PLA,PROM, and AVG) the total will be $225 shipped in the U.S.A.
-- If you are outside the U.S.A send me a PM for the total.

I have made a list of those who posted or PMed me they were interested, and I will update as I recieve payments. Again I would really like to get 20 to make this worth while, but I may still go ahead with the run if we are close. If we don't come close I will refund everyones money.

paypal is [email protected]

Please put what your klov screen-name is and what the payment is for.

Here is a bigger pic of the proto I put together. Again, the final product will have green mask and silkscreen reference markings like the original

If I am reading this correctly for a totally scratch build we need to order the following from you:

$175 - board
$ 20 - chips
$ 30 - MS AVG board (assuming this is the green daughterboard in the pics)
---------
$225 - total per set

Just trying to make sure I get everything in one shot.

Thanks.

Are all the parts readily available to build this?

Yes

I'll post an updated BOM which has suppliers and supplier part number with prices. It's BOM just a general guideline as if you search you can find the parts alot cheaper. But you can use it to order everything.

I also have a mouser project out there that I will link if anyone is interested in just placing an order and get about %85 of the parts. They are NOT the cheapest route, but it would save some digging time for those that would rather have someone else do the legwork.

**** NOTE : If you downloaded the BOM before 12:50AM on 7-1-2011 please download this corrected version.

This most recent version I just changed the Inductors to be the same manufacturer and model to make it all neat and tidy.
Changed the poly caps in C8,C25 to be axial type leads for easier install.

What's the total approximate cost to build one of these boards. I want one bad but need to save up a bit.

I posted the BOM in one of my previous posts that you can view to see totals. But the board will cost between $400 and $525 (worst case scenerio) to build up.

Some might even be able to to it cheaper than $400.

If we have the ability to program the PLA and PROM, can you supply the files or are these only available as preprogrammed parts?

Thanks,
-Chris

I tried getting the image off of my programmer but I wasn't able to. So for now all I can do is offer it as a direct copy I make off the original.

After I get through this board run, I may try and see if I can get the image out to people that purchased boards and want it.

To everybody that's ordered, I have been tossing around the idea of changing the color of the mask from green to blue. I thought this would match the amplifone monitor boards more and still have an Atari feel to it, but be unique.

If I did something like that it would have to be for all the boards, but there would be no extra cost or delay of any kind.

I wish I had a picture example to show you but all I have are their green mask samples.

What do you guys think?

Why even make a knock-off. I just don't get it. Why spend all that money on something that is not even real and tarnish what is. Why not just go the mame route and save a bunch of money. In my opinion once you are all done building your game I would still put it in the category 'mame' or 'atari-chinese-quantum knock-off'.

If you want a Quantum, step up to the plate and buy one.

Its all about staying ORIGINAL and DEDICATED.

Ok, show me one for sale and I will buy it. The only one I saw for sale was marked up considerably and no one went near it....

Except that it's not a knock-off. It's an exact copy of the original PCB, if you held them up together all the traces are in the same spot.

And as to "Why?", it's to keep the real Quantum's alive with the same parts they started with. The PCB's are getting old, traces come off them when they are reworked, edge connectors burn up, etc.
