Nov 28, 2023: A few days ago we ran a routine, minor upgrade on our SQL database. Much to surprise, we learned today that it prevented a number of our users from logging into our forums, or using other parts of our site. It turned out that the SQL database update took it upon itself to move it's configuration file offline. Without it, the site didn't work correctly, though it wasn't obvious since it continued to be used. The configuration file has been restored and hopefully all is better now.

Got this game with Reactor quite a while back. The cabinet was pretty nice, but not perfect. I really debated whether or not i should just leave it. Then i saw Phoenix Arcade's screen printed artwork for this and that pushed me other edge. I don't know a lot about this game yet and honestly haven't had much time to even play it.

Cabinet and Hardware:

Built brand new black melamine cabinet
Stripped and powder coated CP, bolts, brackets, speaker meshes, coin bucket
New T-molding
New Locks
New Vinyl Casters
Cleanup up volcano buttons
NOS Wico 3" trackball

Cosmetics:

Reproduction Side Art (phoenix arcade) - One of the most difficult side art applications so far, i suggest cutting the decal very close to the edge before starting.

Reproduction Control panel metal and overlay (Troy)

Reproduction Marquee - not sure who made it. Looks great, but blue is a bit off, might go back to original.

NOS smoked glass

Custom Atari coin bezel inserts

NOS test sheet

Electronics:

Cleanup/restored inside guts: power supply, wire harness, PCB, etc.
Replaced with better Amplifone monitor - has virtually no burn, not like you could see it anyway behind the smoked glass.
New Speakers
Restored power supply
Cleaned boards and wire harness
New Power Cord
New Marquee Light Fixture/Bulb

Wow! Another one!! Just beautiful work! Its great also that so many more people are reproducing parts and artwork! :D

So when are you gonna Multi it?

:) Shit looks awesome man. I picture you hermetically sealing all of these beauties and storing them away in an underground bunker. Keep it up!

Wow! great work as always, your restos are incredible and love seeing all the pics and hard work you put in to these classics.

The original cabinet, even stripped, is very desirable to many. Please tell us it didn't get destroyed. It's minty compared to my blown out one.

So, your games look awesome, so I have to give you some constructive criticism..not to be negative, but to balance the awesome-ness. Cabinet looks great, but I'd prefer the bottom panel was 3/4" pine ply, like the original. Next, the power brick metal should be the gold iridium looking plating, but Troy repro'd those with proper plating, so you could get a repro and swap the stuff over. Last, some of that 3/4" blocking (back edge of cabinet) could have been sprayed black before applying. Just picking at ya.. the game looks awesome, and anyone would be lucky to have that in their gameroom.

The pics of the original cabinet prove my point. That rare ( and sometimes not so rare) games in nice condition are being gutted. You ( by your own admission) don't even know much about the game.

So I have to ask why. Why ruin a nice game. Why rebuild a game you know nothing about.
Sorry if it feels like I am busting your balls, but imho you just don't get it. You don't know what restoration truly means. Cutting out new cabinets and swapping parts over to them is not restoration. These new games have no soul. The soul remains in the perfectly good cabinet that was left behind.

Instead of telling me why you are ruining good games, maybe you should ask yourself that question.

Yes, still have the original cabinet.

Some great feedback Joey, thanks. I stripped all the rust off the power supply and got so wrapped up in all my projects i forgot it was gold when i came back a few months later to put it back together

I usually use 3/4 pine, but i think i ran out, can't remember. Luckily its one of the lighter games ;)

Hey, if you like scratched up, graffiti cabs with dings everywhere, a control panel that cuts your hands while you play, a trackball that barely moves, rusted out non-working coin doors and the smell of cigarettes or mold that's fine. You can do whatever you want with your games.

Because rebuilding a trackball and painting a coin door has anything to do with the cabinet...

Your description hardly describes the original Quantum cabinet you had. It's ok, you don't get it, and you probably never will, and by the time you do it will be way too late for way too many games.

You took a very rare and nice working game in need of a very mild restoration and ripped all the guts out of it to put in a non-original cabinet.

That is not restoration or preservation, it's just plain sad.

SO let me get this straight, you can restore anything you want on a game but never, EVER touch the cabinet.

Show me where I said that.

But in this case, and try to focus here because we are talking about THIS particular cabinet, not a hypothetical one, it's painfully obvious for anyone to see ( including yourself ) that this was a pretty nice ( your words) complete game that was foolishly gutted.

Personally, I would have used the original cabinet, BUT.....if you make sure that original cabinet goes to another collector, they put original parts in it, and there are 2 more working Quantums in the world, and you're happy with the project, then cool.

I just wanted to make sure that cabinet didn't get trashed. To many,

decent original cabinet > repro > swollen up junk cabinet

Very nice job.

I would take the old cab if/when you decide to let it go. I found a Quantum a while back that had been outside for years and it literally fell apart in my hands. I managed to take everything out of it (the PCB was long gone though), so it would be kind of cool to put it all back together.

You can call me names in PM's all you want Fitzgig. But this is a public forum about arcade game preservation, and if you are going to gut nice complete working games on here then be ready to accept the fact that not everyone is going to be happy about it.
