Qm Tech FPGA Questions / Suggestions

I have 2 MiSTers, and 3 BitKits and can honestly say it depends on what you're looking for. MiSTer is an incredible piece of kit, especially for consoles; but some of the older arcade cores have some serious audio issues that don't seem to be in the pipeline to be fixed, even years later. Reproducing analog audio in a solely digital environment is no easy task.

That's where BitKit really shines. Even though BitKit supports a smaller number (but still a large number) of games, CraftyMech goes above and beyond to make sure the games it does support are implemented properly, including audio.

Galaga plays great on MiSTer, for example, but I couldn't play "Galaxian" without the audio making me want to jam an ice pick in my ears. Both Galaga and Galaxian sound amazing on BitKit.
Hello thanks for this appreciated insight. I've watched several reviews for both the Bitkit and Mister. Not one ever mentioned the attention to detail applied by the bitkit devs. TBH its going to come down to availability. There is no ETA afaik when Mister's will become avail again. The clones are interesting but require additional adapters if I want to use them for jamma. So I'll probably go Bit kit 1st for its availability and price. Depending on how that goes. May get another and it will likely be either a 2nd Bitkit or a mister clone as the original mister seems to have been out of stock for a good while now.

Give me enough time and I'll have a plug and play Mister solution for your galaga. You could be a beta tester if you play your cards right ;) I'm working on Donkey kong right now. The goal is to have it connect to the original edge connector and you can either leave the original pcb in there or take it out, also remove the need for the pp7b power supply. The way I'll do that is have a wire harness coming off the mister kong that plugs into the ac input connector for the pp7b, use the much more reliable and modern power supply from the mister instead of the pp7b. The way I'm going to implement it you just leave the pp7b in there unplugged, if you want to go back to original you just plug the power supply back in and take the edge connector off my device and back on the original pcb. Good luck with your projects though, hope you have fun!

It really depends on the game for the Mister, I've found 95% of the stuff I play on it is 100% accurate. The good news is it's all subject to improvement with updates for things like galaxian. Each option like the Mister vs Bitkit has its pros and cons. So far I've tested these games and had 0 issues donkey kong, pacman, ms pacman, mappy, dig dug, galaga, donkey kong 3, mario bros, centipede, millipede, frogger, and 1941. I did have some slight audio wonkiness on Dk junior. Still way more to test, if you have any suggestions let me know. I think the Mister has the greatest potential as an FPGA replacement for several arcade pcbs it just needs more hardware and software development.
I'd like to know how Cosmic Alien, Guerrilla War, Clowns, Lunar Rescue sound?

Give me a day to get back to you, I have not played those games on the original machines so I'll watch a few videos of each and play each and report back for you. I just tested these games today and they played perfect, burgertime, marvel vs capcom, basically all the marvel vs arcades, and mr do. I also re tried Donkey kong jr on my pvm again and the audio is slightly wonky for this but it seems to affect only dk juniors walk sound and rope climbing sound but overall the core is more than acceptable and hopefully will improve because donkey kong and dk 3 are perfect even mario bros.

Ok took me a day but here's the results cosmic alien and lunar rescue are 100% accurate. Cosmic alien did sound a little soft but it did sound right, hard so say because I don't have original hardware to compare it against but it sounds good it's not jarringly bad. Lunar rescue was pretty fun too. Clowns is broken currently, just keeps resetting and not inputting commands. Also cannot find Guerrilla war core.

The only reason i havent pickup uo a bitkit yet is because no DK or Nintendo games :(

Very interested in the Mister project, havent pulled the trigger on a clone yet.

The mister Kong project is coming along. Have been side tracked with some personal stuff but I'm working on the software right now. Let's just say I've already solved the hardware. Again, I'd say we're a few months from an almost sellable prototype and less than 6 months from being able to sell them. Donkey Kong works perfect on it though, it's almost impossible to distinguish it from real hardware. Going to make reviving dead donkey kongs much easier, eliminate the pp7b, and give you a multi kong all for cheaper than a fully reworked original donkey kong pcb. This will also be much more reliable and great for collectors and business owners operating a machine. I don't like the hss multi game for dk, great idea but sticking big daughter boards with fat legs into old single wipe sockets will ruin them and cause you hours of headache and potentially ruin your pcb plus it's 350$ and you need a working dk pcb which is also 350-400$ minimum. Anyways hope you stay interested, appreciate the interest!
