After reading about how bad the taito power supplies are, I got a switching power supply kit for my non working qix from arcadeshop. I can see that the adaptor fits onto the supply and that the two connectors that go to the boards plug in there. Oak not sure what hooks into the power supply. I figure it should be something coming after the transformer/brick but I need some guidance. The power supply comes with two blue wires. I have read on here that those are used to power the monitor or tap into the monitor power supply. I appreciate the help. Merry Christmas!

You can tap into the monitor power supply but it is easier to just tap into the unpopulated 120vac connector on the left side of the power brick. I believe the two outside positions (it is a three position connector) are the ones that provide the 120vac.

This is exactly what I did and it works great! - Barry

Need a little more info

I looked in my qix and I think I see the solution being mentioned. On the left of the power brick is a metal box that says 120 and has spots for three connectors an has one that is empty. These connectors are white and have three prongs. Is this a standard connector I can pick up at radio shack? Also, I want to be sure that I understandthe previous post that I should connectthe wires to the two outside holes on the three prong connector. Thanks for all the responses.

There should only be 2 pins populated. I don't think Radio Shack has them. Bob Roberts does I think.

Do I need an adapter of some sort? (Sorry to be thick, but I haven't yet found out what parts I would need to make this go.)

An adaptor will be easier to install but you can just cut up your existing harness and rewire it to the switching power supply. I know there is at least one pre-built adaptor; I think Arcade Shop sells it.

There are two long connectors, 15 position I think, that you need to mate to the switching power supply on your Bob kit. The color coding of the wires is pretty standard if I remember correctly, but you really should use a schematic for the conversion. Also, remember to connect the sense lines to the +5 or it will not turn on.
