Qix is killing me!!!!!!! UPDATE Working!!!!!!!

I aquired an upright qix a while ago and it ran for a short time and then died. I let it sit since then. I then aquired a zoo keeper that acted the same way. I put the arcadeshop power supply with adapter in the zoo keeper and it works great.

I ordered another for my qix. Install it and nothing. I got another boardset and put that in there now I just get a blue screen. If I run the self test on the video board it hangs up at what looks like u26 video ram. I replaced it 2 times and it still hangs there. I swapped back in my other video board and it does the same thing hangs at u26.

Anyone have any ideas as I'm about at the end of my rope with this one. - Barry

No one............bueller...bueller........bueller......... just kidding, I've made progress and may have found the problem. Update in a bit.

OK so I got it working and I learned a few things in the process.

After 2 boardsets and new power supply and testing the interconnects for continuity, I still couldn't get it to run.

I tried swapping out each board 1 at a time and the interconnects - no change.

I tested the voltages at the power supply OK

I tested the voltages at the plug on the video board OK

Ran self test on video board and it hangs on u26........

Did some internet searching about 4116 ram and conversions to 4164 ram, I found the ram
schematics and found they needed +5, -5 and +12.

Powered up the game and tested for voltage at the chips - NO 12 VOLTS!!!!!!

Checked power connection for the video board and sure enought the yellow +12 volt wire was not making connection. Pulled the pin and reinserted.

Powered up again to cmos failure screen "WIN"

Ran test again got 1 bad ram - replaced it

Powered up again, went throught the settings and it works!!!!!!!!!

I feel a little stupid as I assumed the connection was fine, but never checked voltage on the chips before.

At least I was able to troubleshoot it and get it running. Now I need to test all parts for both boardsets as they both may work.

I got the second boardset from a cocktail I bought last night to hopefully fix my upright, now I may get it running and sell the cocktail...... - Barry

Yeah.....good info there, thanks.

I too have a ZK and Qix...I'm dreading the day something stuffs up on them, my troubleshooting skills are basic to say the least.
