Qix Battery What does it do?

Holds high scores and settings... if you don't have the battery (or an NVRAM replacement) you'll need to redo all the settings every time you power up.

What does the battery on the Qix board do?
Does Qix work without a battery on the board?

It maintains scores and settings. If you don't have the battery, you'll get an error on boot, and you'll have to fiddle with the coin-door interlocks to clear it. If the battery is completely missing, you'll have to clear the error on every power up, and I'm not sure you'll be able to play it without leaving the coin door open.

The interlocks on Qix are a bit odd: There's actually 2 switches on the coin door. One of them actually cuts power, but the other needs to be pulled so that the reset of the battery backed stuff can happen. Without the coin door open, you can't clear the problem. The thing is, when you want to close the coin door, you'll cut power again, so if the battery is completely missing, you'll have a VERY narrow window in which to get it closed (and therefore powering back up) before it loses it's mind again.

I'm going to remote mine - I've got an old cordless phone battery and some wire, but my battery is still actually working (and not leaking) and I haven't had a chance to hook it up yet.
