Restoring a qbert that was painted black. sanded it down to the cardboard wood, primed and used dc332 yellow paint based off phets restoration. comparing it to some other qberts to me the yellow looks too light. what do you think?

I don't personally see any difference. However, if you are convinced it looks lighter, it could be that the natural outdoor lighting makes the paint look lighter than if it were indoors.

I see what you're saying with it looking a little light but it looks good to me. I guess in all reality a new qbert may have been a bit darker yellow than any of our restos. Unless you have one that never saw the light of day until you pulled it out to get a color match, they all probably have varying degrees of fading from nearly 30 years of age.

You are probably right about the natural light making it look lighter, never really thought of that. i will be posting eventually within the next month or so a complete restoration thread on it, i'm just waiting to do a complete one instead of progress pics. all i started with is this black cab.

It worked for me, but I color-matched the cab directly. That's why I don't believe in codes. Different stores, different paint brands, different people mixing, different paint types, finishes, etc.

Phet, can you post a couple of more photos please. :)

:)

I just laugh because for someone who hated Q*bert you seem to love it now! +1

Was that from MudManTim?

yes it is from mudmantim, he brought it out to me when the pinball at the zoo show was going on.

i dont have the sideart yet but now i guess i should order it, i would like to see if my paint is a lot lighter than the art, i realize it wont be exact. if the colors are off from one another can i just color match the art and apply it over my yellow now or do i have to strip bare again?

Hell no. I'd leave it as is, but if you wanna do a darker coat matched from the CPO yellow, you just have to evenly scuff your entire cab with 220 or even 320 sandpaper, clean it off real nicely and then paint right on top of your last coat.

And don't clean it with anything but denatured alcohol or mineral spirits... If you are doing latex USE A TACK CLOTH!!!
