So awhile back I got a Qbert that had a switching power supply added. The work seem to be done cleanly. Shortly after the machine puked. I had let it go but now returning to it. I was wondering if there were harnesses going to the A8P4 /A8P14 /A8P8/ A8P1 positions on the board as they are missing from this setup. I want to return the machien to its original parts whether I send the boards out for repair or try them myself. But I would have to fix the wiring harness which is where I am lost currently.

And these are the wires coming out of the switching board going in to the game pcbs.

the whole filter board should be populated, the qbert manual is a pretty good one imho, it should show you just where all the wire should land if you want to keep the filter board in play (i hear many just bypass it, mine is still there)

i don't see the filter board in the manual. plus i am unsure if the wires he sliced into go to any other boards.

watchin this one- Have a similar situation (qbert was turned to mat mania- id like to turn it back) but not as many of the wires that you do- so likely need to make your own wiring harness- good luck!

Pages 30-32 in the manual. I marked the Filter board in green... arrows point to the unpopulated pins in question.

I see you are in PA. I wonder if that cab has been through TNT. That looks to be the same thing Todd Does to his games. It is supposed to make the power supply run cooler. I have watched this video and others several times, as it is interesting to me:

So maybe I am just better leaving everything alone and rebuilding the other boards with newer caps? I was wondering why it was still being used and such. I figured out the monitor portion of the wiring but I have no clue about the other connectors. Some of the color wires aren't matching with what I see in the diagrams. I'll get better pictures when I get home later. I appreciate everyone helping. I'll be ordering the rebuild kits tomorrow.

I'm planning on doing mine like the video when I get there. Search YouTube for TNT Qbert. There are several examples where they do this. it looks to me like a good solution to add some reliability. I think rebuilding the power supply is a good start.

if the power supply is rebuilt with the upgraded parts like we have in our kits than it unnecessary to separate it. there are a ton of under rated parts on that power supply which also makes it run much hotter than needed.

so can anyone make sense of how they wired it using a newer power supply? i looked at the tnt video and it seems like they have more wires going to the top connectors.

The neat thing about qbert schematics is that you see a numbers on the wire in the schematics. These numbers are cordinates with the color code on the wire.
