I'm about to start painting my qbert, i just need to finish bondoing first. Do i want to use minwax wood hardener before i start painting? i have no water damage currently but reading thru all the old threads there it sounds like this cab could start sucking up the moisture quickly. i am going to be rolling oil based primer and paint based on what i've read here.

I'll be following along with this one for sure. My cabinet still needs a few more spots sanded and maybe a bit of patching, but it's close to ready to prime and paint also. Did you strip all the black off from the top or monitor area to re-do that as well?

Yes these cabs will soak up water very well....I found that out the hard way when water got on the back door. :( It's now pretty much useless except for as a template to cut a new one.

So far all the black was stripped off the cab except for the inside of the cab. I'm going to strip off the black around the inside of the bezel/monitor area now that i think of it. I was sanding and bondoing all weekend. I also built a new base out of pine and installed new leg leveler hardware that i picked up from lowes. Going to try to primer soon but i dont want this thing to swell.
