Is there something about Qbert that makes it misfire when first powered up? I have it connected to a power strip with a few other games. When I hit the room switch they all turn on at the same time. But I often have to hit the switch on top of QBert Off and On as it starts resetting itself and locking up when it first comes up. After it's on for a minute it settles down and is fine. Does this power-on qbert hiccup occur for anyone else? What should I be looking for?

I always have to start mine up 2-5 times as it freezes the first time, every time. I have the AS switcher and Doyle's 7 in 1 multi installed. It still does it. It didn't do it before I installed the multi-kit however. Still don't know why it happens.

I have about a 66% chance of mine coming up the first time. When it doesn't, it is just a white screen.

It is all original, heater for a PS and all. I have had harness problems in the past that put it out of order for a bit. Wires are all cool again.

Check your voltages at the board, with that crappy filter board and lame ass harness connectors, I would be surprised if it was 5V.

I have no issues with the Qbert MK and AS power supply.

I did ensure that the board was receiving 5v, not what the switcher was putting out.

10 out of 10 on power cycles...

Yes, qbert will have issues with the high score table getting corrupted if the power falls during power up. In your case its because your switching multiple games on at once. Most games dont have a problem with this. Your qbert needs to be switched on by itself.
My machine used to do this when I was switching a bunch of games on at once. Now I turn qbert on seperatly and never have any problems with it.

I don't have any problem turning my Q*Bert on w/ the rest of my games... it's all original.

Hmm, well I'll have to take some more pics. Apparently I never took a complete one to refer to afterwards. But I'm pretty sure everything is original.
I'm pretty sure in it's hayday that there wasn't one arcade operator that went around to each machine in the morning and powered on by wherever the switch was located. They'd hit the breaker box and that was it.

All I know is I have experienced this and there have been several posts over the last couple years where others had the same issue when turning on multiple games at once. Not sure if there is a solution to it but my solution was to just turn on qbert by itself. I got tired of loosing my high scores.

There is a substantial inrush event whenever games are powered on; they will draw several times their rated current momentarily. During the inrush they can transit through low voltage conditions and depending on the duration of the event, condition of the power supply, individual voltage requirements of the machine, ect, you'll sometimes see boot sequence errors.

It is entirely possible your Q*bert is more sensitive to voltage by design, or age, or it's power supply is marginal.

RE: my Multi Q*bert kit shouldn't be at fault Phet since it's chipset should consume less power than the originals it replaces. More than likely it's the effect of a marginal power supply or filter board.

Yeah that's why I bought the $65 drop in switcher from Arcadeshop and had my filter board reflowed and checked out by Riptor. It could be the big cap down on the power brick, I never changed that out because I wasn't sure where to find a suitable replacement.

Phet, measure your +5 down on the main pcb when your adjusting it. Qbert has quite a bit of voltage drop from the power supply to the pcb and it will act flaky if its below 5.05 or so.

Are there 5V TP's? otherwise, where should I be testing for 5V?

Ok, this seems to be getting worse as time progresses. I have now taken to powering up Q*Bert by hand and it seems to be getting progressively worse. Having to power on and off about 3 times by the cabinet top switch.
Power board rebuild kit?? Suggestions? Links?
