QBert joystick ball size? - Best joystick replacement?

Can anyone tell me what the size of the ball is on a Qbert joystick? I read the original was made by STC but do not know if that is correct. STC's current universal joystick seems to be shaped like the original Qbert. It is available with a 32mm or 38mm ball. Does one of those match the original?

Is there a better current joystick replacement?

honestly qbert had a pretty unique joystick. As far as I know only qbert, pepper II and I believe hard hat used this joystick. It's also unique in that the centering grommet is basically a pinball rubber. Really it's a plastic housing with a pinball rubber with a shaft pushed through it and the switches. One of the most simplistic joysticks I've ever seen. Some of the old data east joysticks look similar shape but are not the same and the shaft and ball are larger. To be honest if you're going for the original look there's really no great replacement. I would definitely use something that's micro switch for the feel since that's what the original was. If you're going for feel you want a really tight stick with not a great deal of play to it.

no clue who made the qbert stick. Just looked at the STC stick and the shaft looks like the data east sticks I mentioned. Main difference in looks other than I think the ball is smaller is the fact that the STC and data east sticks shafts are larger near the ball and thin near the bottom. Qbert is the opposite. Slightly bigger near the bottom and thinner near the ball. And I just checked and the data east feels nothing like a qbert. It's very clicky and much looser. Also keep in mind that the qbert panel has a large hole that fits the joystick housing. This is also another unique feature to this stick design.

I was afraid it would take an original to get the same feel and possibly sit right on the control panel. Seems hard to find one though so I may have to settle for something else. At least until one pops up.

I finally found some pics of an original QBert joystick. The pics I saw originally were of a stick someone purchased that was supposed to be original but it was not. The real thing looks much different from the one I thought would work.
