Hello, I am starting to get serious on this qbert restore. I am closet to getting the cabinet finished and starting to work on the hard stuff. I noticed it looks like I am missing a piece on the board ( pic attached ) slot 1 doesnt have anything and i saw on ebay a board that works that had the piece in place. ( mine does not ) Also attached is what my monitor is doing: thanks in advance

I may be the only one but what piece are you talking about? Is it that first transistor that doesn't quite look like the others and is this a pic of your board or the ebay board?

The blocks on the screen is probably bad roms and you will need a programmer to verify them or at least a friend with one. Without one you can only remove and reseat them sometimes it works but don't really think so if this was bought like this. If it was working and all of a sudden starting doing this, it is more likely to work.

Yes, I guess it is that first transistor that is missing on the left side. This is a pic of my board. The game was basically given away not working. So I assume it hasn't worked in a long time and has a few issues that need to be found and worked out

Well I just saw another board on ebay that is missing the same item and has an extra thing attached like mine. So I guess that is not the issue. I guess I have some bad roms. Anyone have any suggestions of who can take a look at this for me? thanks

I am too far but if and when Channelmaniac has another repair party bring it to his place in Highland, TX and after a few margaritas they will help you get that game going. If not drink more margaritas and it will not matter :).

Check the blue jumper caps on the board for bad connections and see if any are missing. Thats the first thing I would check along with the +5v.
I dont see a missing transistor, just one that is different.

is there any battery leakage? or prior battery leakage? its possible you can have some bad ic chips south of the battery area.

If you have done nothing with the board at a minimum you need to remove each socketed IC, clean and inspect the legs for any that may be bent under and straighten them, and carefully re-insert each IC. If you previously accidently inserted one of the Eproms in backwards, that could destroy the eprom and you will have to program a replacement.

Riptor's suggestion about the blue jumpers is spot-on - that's another area of weakness for these boards. Removing and re-inserting them will create some wiping action and if it restores the image, I'd consider solder bridging them on the underside (solder side) of the board.

If after all of this you are still having issues, time to send the board to a "qualified technician" as there may be a faulty IC or two.
