Wow, what an awesome freaking game! I finally got my Multi Q*Bert kit today and installed that bitch and have been playing Qubes the whole time. Awe-some. The multi kit is great, BTW. Qubes rocks, and so does FHMC Q*Bert. So easy to install, the menu is simple to navigate, and the extra games are just icing on the cake.

My HS so far is only 49K, but damn I love this game.

Props (again) to Mike Doyle for making this 10-1 kit. If you own a Q*Bert, you NEED this.

I really enjoy QUBES. It's really the only other game worthwhile on that multi kit if you ask me. I really like the QUBES bonus stages. Such a great idea. COOL ASS GAME for sure!

Yeah, the bonus stage is rad. I'd say the $185 price tag for the kit is worth just Qubes. Those things are like hens teeth, yeah?

I been screaming it for years. It just seems that nobody listens, til they actually get a Qbert, then the kit, then they finally figure it out. It's all just white noise until you actually see the kit in action and play the shit out of it. Cubes, FHMC, Mello Yello, I love them all. It's why I will never get rid of my Qbert, I will just keep fixing it as it breaks.

Love me some Qubes!
I can hit about 200,000 on it, however, I have issues with th HS save on that paticular game....

Actually, painting another Qbert cab today...probably should snap a few pics of that.

Bonus rounds are a blast! The 4th one makes me pissed and just usually walk away.... @#%!$%

:D

Mike did a great job with that kit. Faster Harder and Qubes are such great games and I like that it boots up to the original Qbert if you want

Ditto. This is the game that gets the most play time out of me currently. And it runs like a champ now that I've installed a switching power supply kit (even with a fully shopped power supply the damn thing would heat up like crazy, need to figure out why that was happening some day... will probably hold off on that until Dokert makes harnesses though).

But I need to clean/lube the knocker now that the switcher kit is in, it doesn't do shit right now running off +12VDC.

I still mostly just play regular Q*bert, but Qubes gets some play now and then. Tylz is also fun (albeit annoying with Q*bert sounds) and the tank game (forget the name right now) is also cool despite it really needing 2 8-way sticks.

From everything I have read and everyone I have talked to, your knocker wont ever work with that switcher. Such a bummer too, cause people have said their Q*Berts are rock solid with that switcher hooked up. Give and take I guess.

Mine works fine with the switcher. Just at half strength. It goes 'THUD' rather than 'THWACK FUCKER!!!!', but it still works fine.

If it was me I would rebuild the power supply and forget about using a switcher. The game is somewhat more cool with the full knocker sound. I have found out more and more that rebuilding the original power supplies in these old games is better than putting in a switcher.

I have the multi kit and it's nice to have. I would agree that Cubes is the best of the bunch. My CPU is not completely working so I have not been able to enjoy it completely. Now that I have it out for repairs hopefully the game will be 100%. If you have issues with your CPU the multi game can do all kinds of weird stuff. It's always something with these old games...

Yeah, my PS needs rebuilt and my sound board, too. My kit was doing weird stuff last night but I know its because of other issues. The only bummer is that when I send the PS off for repair, I wont be able to play it, ha.

I have spent at least two years on and off working on my machine and hopefully this is the last piece that will keep it working.... Like I said in the other thread keep an eye out for the speech chip - they come up for sale.

If it was me, I would just send everything out now. I sent it out in pieces and it just dragged the whole process out, and I have never had a completely working machine.

In my case it isn't currently an option. I have a fully rebuilt power supply from Riptor and doctored CPU/sound boards from Takeman. And yet still when I run the original power supply it gets incredibly hot (not just a little bit hot, but scorching hot). Power is dissipating somewhere as heat, but I have yet to take the time to troubleshoot what is doing it.

At this point I will probably just have to rebuild the transformer brick in the cabinet as well. Maybe also do ground mods. But I think just in case I will hold off until Dokert makes his run of harnesses that bypass the filter board.

I miss having a working knocker though. It takes a lot away from the experience. :/ Not sure if I completely agree with the no love for switchers opinion though, knocker aside a switcher in a Q*bert is a lot nicer due to the potential hazards of the Gottlieb power supply design.

Yeah, since I have a cocktail the knocker is fucking LOUD. It scares the shit out of anyone who hears it, ha. Maybe I just throw the switcher in there and say fuggit?

There is no knocker on Qubes, right?

Do it up ni@@a.

I played Qubes like crazy at Funspot. Amazing and fun game. It was interesting to see rarer games like Qubes & Quantum getting completely ignored. I didn't see anybody play them once while I was there. Everybody was huddled in the Nintendo corner and I had Qubes all to myself...

I have had a lot of NVRAM issues with the Q*Bert kit. Constantly getting the NVRAM error and lost scores. Or, sometimes the game switches games on its own. Bizarre shit.

Thats exactly what mine was doing (after it had been on a few hours). I blame the heat from the PS, but who knows. I couldn't switch games :(
