So I recently aquired a Q-bert and been so focused on getting the cabinet fixed up that I didn't really go over the game. My monitor is acting up so I had a spare I hooked up today and played for a few minutes. I noticed two things. First when he falls to his doom is the knocker suppose to fire at the end of his yell or shortly before he "hits bottom"? Then playing another round I i noticed when he died he would yell. But instead of stopping he kept talking thru the next stage. Basically he didn;t shut up. Then i killed myself off and as the game went into attract mode he still kept going. What might be going on here?

The knocker fires at the end of his yell of IIRC. Have you checked voltages on the sound board? I know those can be problematic due to some components being run at too high a voltage. I was having some sound issues, missing sounds, new sounds, etc. a simple research of all the connectors fixed it and it's now happy (for the moment)

On mine, it's timed at the end of his yell. For both the Bert and Coily it thumps at the same time as if they hit the cab bottom after leaving the screen. Really cool effect.
Morbid me imagines a pile of QBert and Coily corpses piled in the back of my cab.

then i definitly have an issue. he still screaming when the knocker fires. so i am guessing i am having issues with my sound board. and he still won't shut up. haha

what would cause that actually? i just can;t figure why it would fire late unless the soundboard is the issue

Have you tried reseating all the connectors? That fixed my issues with missing and "new" sounds that were popping up. Have you checked all your voltages? Incorrect voltage can cause issues.

As other members have posted reseating the connectors and cleaning the pins can take care of many issues. Another thing I recommend is to reflow the solder on the board where most all of the connectors plug in. This recently worked for me with a random reset issue I was having.
Good luck!

I had messed up sounds on mine. Replaced the A10 chip here, and the sounds were correct again. So even though it could be an issue on the sound board itself, it wouldn't hurt to check this on the main logic board too.

A10 is the location of the IC

74LS377 is the chip number.

just for clarification carry on...
