I have an original and dedicated Q-Bert upright and it hasn't been turned on in a few months.
When I did turn it on I had squares over the moving objects during the game.
I unplugged, grounded myself and put pressure on the some of the chips just in case they weren't seated properly but now I'm barely getting any video. It lights up dimly with no image or it lights up with garbage on the screen.
Praying it's something simple.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ted.

Sounds like it could be bad sockets, which is very common on Q*Berts. In fact, my Q*Bert has bad chip sockets, but I don't want to replace them until I get a proper desoldering setup. You may want to try to pull the chips out and reseat them and see if that helps.

Just dealt with this myself. Does it look like this...

Does yours have the Ni-Cad battery (black box) on it still? I've been told those notoriously leak acid and could be the problem. I ended up taking mine to the local board mechanic and swapping for a working one. PM Riptor, he is the man when it comes to QBert and can help you out.

When I bought my Galaga it wouldn't get past the RAM OK screen, so I pulled each chip and cleaned the pins with a square eraser and deox one at a time:

So%20I%20continued%20to%20remove%20each%20chip%20from%20Galaga....jpg

I would test each every 5 or so chips so I would know if I messed something up where it was, and when I was about 3/4 throught the chips I got it to this:

Wahoo%21%20Got%20Galaga%20past%20%22RAM%20OK%22%20message%20--%20continuing%20the%20process%20of%20pulling%20each%20chip%20and%20cleaning%201%20at%20a%20time..jpg

And then with the last chip:

...And%20when%20I%20was%20done%2C%20SUCCESS%21%20%20%23Galaga%20up%20and%20running%21%20%20Now%20I%20need%20to%20clean%20the%20cabinet%20and%20put%20it%20back%20together%21.jpg
