Q*Bert Sound Problem

Replace the 74LS377 at location A10 on the mainboard first. Its the most common cause of sound problems on qberts.

I just watched your video and I was surprised how consistently wrong the sounds were. Usually they will play random sounds.

I watched the video and heard sounds I've never heard on mine. Maybe I'm not getting to the right levels. Have to try harder.:)

I replaced the 74LS377 at A10 and it had no effect. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to look at next? I haven't been able to find any previous posts with this same problem. Most sound problems are related to random sounds - mine are not so much random as just wrong. And some of them (such as "Whoooaa" when Q*Bert is falling) play repeatedly when they should play once.

I haven't checked your video, but I had the described symptoms once and replacing A10 didn't help. I think I ended up reseating some cables and it worked.

I know this is going to sound petty, but did you make sure your sound ROM's are in the correct sockets?

You might also want to check the voltage level at the sound PCB and main PCB. I have noticed when I was adjusting my power supply voltage that the sound would be off.

I've been running the multi Q*Bert kit for a few years and until recently it worked well.

Off in what way? Totally silent or something like what I'm getting?

So your running the multikit, this adds a new dimension to it. I didn't see that in your orignial post. One thing to try then is to take off the multikit and see if you still have the sound issue.

It sounded like what your getting.
