So I just picked up a Q-Bert in really decent shape from a friend, and I'm going to give it a full restore. I have no knowledge of this game specifically, so I'm excited to learn all about it!

I'll assess the cosmetic restoration needs as I strip it down, but the high points so far are:

- The game plays but the board needs some work. There are parts of the game grid not being rendered. My friend has purchased the IC's that may be causing the issues, but has not installed them. I'll need some sockets for them.

- The art on the glass is peeling off. I'll look into replacing it with a reproduction.

- There are minor scratches and dents around the cab, but it doesn't look like there is any water damage.

The first power up I did today was without the main board installed, but the sound board and monitor in. It immediately said, "I am turned on", which I found disconcerting.

That machine looks to be in great shape. Maybe the pics are deceiving but it looks nice.

If that bezel is not to bad and you still want to replace it I may be interested in buying it from you.

Eh, what the heck, I'll post an issue. Here is what I'm getting when I plug the board in:

The monitor (G07) is making a very high pitched squeal, but the game plays blind otherwise. No connectors seem loose, anyone have an idea before I dive in? Thanks.

The first thing to do is pull the filter board and reflow all the header pins on it. It looks like you might just have a broke solder joint on the sync pin. Of course it could also be the headers on the monitor too but thats less likely than the filter board.

Thanks for the direction. I promised myself I'd finally build out my jamma bench test rig this holiday weekend with the little LCD monitor I bought from Raven, but this Q-Bert just fell in my lap and it's hard to resist...

It actually looks in good shape! They all have flaking on the bezel. There are some nos overlays on the bay if you need them ( yours look good though ) or I'm sure someone on the forum probably has some as well. Do some research on the sound board, they are very prone to failure and there is a mod to help remedy that, I would recommend doing that or checking to see if it's already been done. Congrats on the new acquisition!

Well, I just fired it up after a week or so, and the high voltage pitch noise came back, but no picture at all now. I was able to hook my now finished test rig's LCD to the video output, an got a messy signal. It looks like there might be two sync's and a ground along with the rgb. I need to do some more research, and pull the chassis.
