I'm getting a little ahead of myself here but, I have a Q*Bert cabinet that was converted to "Block-Out". I have a ton of projects on the go but this one takes the number two spot after my D2K cab. I'd like to convert it back. So, here's what I need.

Bezel
Control Panel or CPO, joystick and buttons
Front decal
Marquee
All boards and knocker
Wiring Harness

Basically I need everything, I have a control panel on it but it has been drilled and the studs for the joystick have been cutoff.

I have parts to trade if people prefer that, let me know.

I would never discourage anyone from doing a full restore.

To break down my restore:

qbert cabinet converted to mania challenge: $25

qbert boards: $200
wiring harness $85
power board rebuild $35
Bezel NOS $65
Marquee $30
cpo set $40-$50
sideart $65
paint/sanding/ primer, etc. 15 hours and $50
knocker $15-$20
build my own volume control/test switch, etc. $15
Not sure if that is all, I think it probably wasn't.
cost me around $700-$800 to restore a $25 cab.
Could have bought one for much cheaper I imagine, but I would not trade the
experience.

I'll have a couple working main boards in a week or so. I currently have 1 power supply (rebuilt with new caps, regualtors and common failure parts) $75 shipped and 1 sound board (new amp, caps & fresh roms) $80 shipped. I also have just the board side of the harness for $25 shipped.

I am with Tron Guy on this and actually Tron Guy was a big help in me restoring my Qbert. It took me 3 months and as Tron Guy said a ton of cash but like him i wouldn't trade the expierence. This was the toughest convertion that i have ever done but it felt great to get it back to a Qbert from the crappy Arkiond convertion.

Good luck and don't give up on finding parts they will showup on here in time. Also I bought a Wiring harness from a guy but the dude only sent me 1/2 of it! at the time i didn't notice but be aware, there are two halfs to the wiring harness.

Good luck and Quarter Arcade.com had lots of the parts i needed, give them a shout.

Here is mine in all it's KNOCKER glory! LOL

Braido...

Hello. I'm all for you converting it back because we can never have enough Q*berts out there. You may want to just start off by "restoring" the cabinet. From there... You may want to start looking at your options to get her to actually play. Troy is a great source to get good working PCB's from. Another option would be to ... <cough, cough, cough/> MAME it to just play Q*bert (which really isn't a cheap way to go either). However, this type of "unconvert" it might be best to Jamma it and wait for JROK's Multi Gottlieb PCB.

Options are always good.

I was going to buy some of the stuff from takeman but decided not to. I'm going to do what audio said and just get the cabinet restored first and try to get an original wiring harness, if not i'll use the jamma thats in it and wait for the jroks multi. doesnt seem wise to start buying all the extra boards if i can't find a harness.

I have a bunch of main pcbs and a couple power supplys but nothing ready to ship. Honestly I dont know when I will get around to fixing these.
Good luck, my first qbert was brought back from an abused jammatized condition.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I was originally going to use a Mame set-up for this cabinet because I already have the parts in hand from other Mame builds I've done for friends. After the kind suggestions, I'll start with the cab first, get it looking top notch and go from there.

Any idea when the Jrok pcb is coming out?

Thanks

No idea on when Jrok's PCB is coming out. If you get the cabinet done and don't feel like waiting Riptor (as he said) did a harness from scratch and both he and Takeman are good sources for PCB's. I'd avoid MAME if you want the knocker to work.

Yeah I hand built a harness for my machine but I have no intentions on doing another one. I passed on the opportunity a while back, its just too time consuming. I only did the one because I was tired of trying to find a good used one.

I'm sure if i gave you enough $$ you'd do one for me? :)

I have a hacked up main harness that will need quite a bit of love to make it usable...but it can be done.

I guess I was fortunate for the most part with my Q*Bert. When I bought it, it had been converted to JAMMA but the power brick and most of the AC wiring (monitor power, interlock, on/off switch) was still there. A buddy hooked me up with the pcb section of wiring, and then Quarterarcade had the last remaining big piece I needed.

Here's where I got my harness and power supply (and marquee). This cab was swollen and gross... got burned the next day. Scariest part was digging out the compacted garbage in the bottom to dig out the power supply. There was even empty cans of pork and beans in with all the newspapers and crap.
