Q*Bert not showing text or playfield

Nevemind the gfx problem... get that ancient Datasentry battery off there before it leaks and does some real damage.

Can it be replaced with a cr2032?

Yes but make sure you block the charging voltage with a diode. Also, make sure that the two 6116 rams on the end are low power version. They should have a 'LP' on the end of the part number.
You can also install a nvram and do away with the battery.

something similiar....my mad planets was missing the ship and planets due to one of those blue jumpers not making good contact.i had all other graphics...

Looks like the background ram is at location E10-E11 and the ROMs are at E11-E13. Some data path muxes at D11-D13 and foreground/background mux is at H13.

I would start by checking the select line of that mux and make sure its not pegged low.

Thanks all for the advice, I'll be doing some measuring tonight. I know a prior owner possibly did some troubleshooting on the board, and I noticed some of the IC's are marked with a red paint stripe. Is this factory? Some look like factory markings, some not. Pics attached.

i used to have a q-bert in my arcade that used to give me fits..i had to use a fibreglass brush and take the roms out and polish the legs on the roms that went into sockets...( WARNING...if you do this take your OLD sweet time removing them so not to break legs off the chips..and slowly polish the legs till they are clean and shiney )

if you feel you can do that just polish the legs shiney and slip them back in the sockets... thats what used to cause mine to have a fit till they got polished...then it worked fine :)

my 2 cents!

Those are likely inspection marks that were put on when the chip was manufactured. All qberts have chips with these red markings on them. Some chips like mil-spec stuff have additional testing they go through and will have paint daubs on them. Maybe gottlieb sourced the chips and specified extra testing. Just my guess.

I must have a horseshoe up my ass because I replaced and socketed D10 just before pulling the rom out at E10-11 an brushing off the legs with a fiberglass brush... Popped the board in for a test, and viola. Thanks for the advice all!

Yep, I have a horseshoe shaped gap in my behind, I replaced the 1 amp fuse for the knocker and it works! Off to create a restore thread...

YAY ! FEDEXIN!

that lil trick usually works for most older games like pacman and galaga and the like...i always had the dirty pins issue on many of mine cause the arcade was on the boardwalk ( 200 yrds from the Beach ) so oxidation tends to happen as a normal course with many old games :)

GLAD to see it Worked YAY !

Feel Free to pick my brain anytime :)
