I have a few questions for the guys who are running the 6 or 7 in 1's.

-Do you like your multi kit?
-Do you feel you play many of the games on the kit, or do you just stick with 1 or 2?
-What do you have the kit boot to on start up?
-Can all the games be set to free play?
-How do you set the dips on games like TYLZ as if they don't appear in the set up menu?

I am happy to report that I am running the 7 in 1 and am loving it for the most part, but I am still having trouble with the set up menu. I don't think this kit came shipped with an instruction manual, so I have been winging the set up for 3 years. Sometimes, this has unwanted effects on the games I want to play. Thanks.

Hi there,

I have one of the original Mike Doyle 6 in 1 kits he offered - I love it. To answer your questions...

Love it!

We play several, regular Qbert, Qbert Qubes, FHMC Qbert, MY Qbert. Sometimes I try the other games but I don't understand their control mapping and don't get too far with them. I think I like Qubes best. I seem to play it more than the others.

I have it boot up to the selection menu - not directly to a game.

AFAIK they're all on free play - I'd have to check the baseball and insector games. Don't play those enough to know off the top of my head.

My kit does not have Tylz so can't help there.

Tom

Sorry Phet- I don't have any answers right now, but I do have a question- does anyone want to sell me one of these so I can answer Phet's questions and achieve pure Q-bert multi bliss?

Cool. I actually have the 8 in 1 now that I think of it, as this also has 7-11 Q*bert, which also does not appear in the set-up menu. I have 5 of the 8 set to freeplay, but I can't set freeplay on TYLZ or 7-11 Qbert. There is a set-up for the multi kit, but when you get to the set-up screen for it, none of the buttons change any of the values from 0 to 1 (on or off). I messed with it a bit this morning, and now TYLZ starts upside down and is still set to quarter play. At least all my sounds are once again working properly.

I got one of the last batch that Mike made. I love it. I'll mainly just play Q*bert and FHMC Q*bert, however. I sometimes start that baseball game because it's so goofy. I had no idea Tylz was even on there until just now, when I looked it up and saw the article on Rotheblog. Oof. So I guess I've got a new game to check out tonight.

(FHMC and regular Q*bert on the same board is SO nice. Sometimes I feel like spending a few minutes playing and FHMC is perfect, since I'm bad at it. Other times I'm okay with a nice, long game.)

I haven't had any problem getting everyone into free play, but I've only tried the Q*bert games and baseball. I also set the thing up to boot to the main menu instead of directly into a game.

Yeah I tried the 'Boot to a game" thing, but then you can't get to any of the other games without going into test mode again. It seems you have to boot to the Multi-Menu if you wanna be able to play all the games on the list. Is your 7-11 Q*Bert set to free play? If so, how'd you do it?

Did they ever get the correct sound roms for Tylz?

It's emulated with qbert sounds, and it's quite annoying.

I got the Mike Doyle 6-1.

I like it.
I just play Q*bert, Q*bert's Qubes, and FHMC.
Boots to the menu.
Those 3 are on free play, not sure on the rest.
Don't have Tylz.

I used to have a dedicated Qubes (which I got the WR on), but the multi-version is pretty much the same (except for a couple of missing sounds - they aren't included in the kit, my soundboard is fine).

The correct sounds for Tylz were lost forever when: (and this all hearsay)

1. Pinball collector buys a box of random boards at auction
2. Discovers a *different* set of ROMs on one of the boards
3. Decides to erase the sound ROM and use the sound board in his pin
4. That sound ROM just happened to be the only known existing sound ROM for Tylz

Luckily the other ROMs were dumped, so Tylz at least exist in some form today. Q*bert sounds were used because it made more sense than say, using "Hello Kitty, Island Adventure" sounds....

Instructions are here: www.widel.com go to "Projects" then "Multi Q*bert"

I really like tylz but do find the qbert sounds a bit annoying in it. I've always thought someone should try putting some new sounds to the game. Can't be that hard, right?

The instructions are for the 6 in 1, which I suppose is close, but with the 8 in 1, TYLZ and 7-11 Q*Bert don't show up on the dip menu page. How do you set the dips for those 2?
