I have a fully working, good shape Q*Bert machine for sale in Newark, Delaware (between Philly and Baltimore). The monitor has been recapped, the high voltage regulator changed, and the machine has been cleaned up substantially. Coin mechs work (I pirated them from my Punch Out game), and everything about the game seems solid. The cabinet is in very nice shape (there are a few nicks...easily painted over....some scuffs on the underside of the control panel...you have to be seriously looking to see them). The game board looks to be in A+ shape (I'm not an uber expert, but I've got a handful of games and this is the cleanest board I've seen)

Asking $1000 for this (cash only, pickup or short delivery only). I am perfectly happy to take photos or videos of the game in action if you are interested.

Would also consider trade for a local and working Sinistar game or towards a Dragon's Lair (although I know that DL is a totally different price range)

Steve

ps- new member....hopefully I haven't broken any etiquette with this placement

Your asking price is WAY too high. But that's not an etiquette problem! :D

If that's all original and in that good of condition, it's only slightly high. Qbert's are hard to find. They are even harder to find working and in good condition. I'd say $500-$800 would be the range you'd likely see a machine in that condition sell for. You can ask whatever you want for it though, doesn't bother me, as I already have a nice one. GREAT GAME. I used to hate it as a kid, now it's one of my favorites. Every arcade needs a Q*Bert.

thanks for the comments. Price is certainly negotiable and I'm not wanting to rip anyone off. I was merely looking at some of other prices I had seen (TNT Amusements has it for 1300 in Philly, I've seen it for 1200, 1900, etc on Ebay....not necessarily sold at those prices)

Again, if someone is interested, I'd be willing to discuss.

I love the game....I'm only selling it because I have a <shudder> MAME cabinet that built that plays Qbert (doesn't have the solenoid knocker, but I can live without that)

Thanks again for the honest replies

Steve

I sold a very nice working (rebuilt/modified PS) one to a friend for 450 before the economy went south, and that's all I have to say about that.

You can't use prices shown on eBay or on reseller sites. The people on KLOV are about the only buyers around anymore, and we don't pay those prices. Ever. Unless we're drunk and/or high. That's a different story.

Best to ask for fair market value, take great pictures, a video if you can, and offer a beer to the guy picking it up. You'll get good prices, a great rep, and a new contact in the arcade community.

OR.....get someone drunk and/or high. Then ask for $1000. :)

TNT is retail. I agree with Phet, I'd pay anywhere between $500 - $800 for one. As a matter of fact I just bought one from dj dns with all new artwork for $600. Q*bert has been on my want list since the beginning, and it was hard to find one.

Like others have said, you can ask for whatever you want, but no one on this forum is going to pay that price. I saw your listing on Craigslist before I bought mine and ignored it even though you're a lot closer to me.

If you really want to get that much, your best bet is to try ebay.

BTW, welcome to the forum :)

Welllllll.....I have tons of beer on hand :)

thanks again for the pricing help....Certainly worth thinking about as I move forward (truth be told, my initial asking price was $750, but I was told that I should ask higher to get the $750.....I bought the machine together with a friend and his advice was to shoot high on price....no beer for him next time I see him).

It's a gorgeous machine. $750 wouldn't be far off. Plenty of guys will tell you they get'em cheaper, but they're hounds for deals and typically aren't buying the best looking machines, or are buying them from people who just didn't know what they were worth.

Good looking ones go for more.

Different buyers are different, but if I saw it listed for $750, I'd think that you knew what you were doing and I'd probably pay your asking price or make an offer close to it.

I generally don't haggle with arcade enthusiasts, but random people selling arcade games, yes.

Some forum members will list on CL for one price and then offer a discount to KLOV members here - you get much more interest here.

But good luck with your sale, and stick around.

I'll definitely stick around...I've been lurking here for a few years now and enjoy the site. I wish I had more room in the basement for stuff, but it's pretty maxed out, thus the sale. I could squeeze Sinistar or Dragon's Lair if I stumbled on one, but it's been pretty tight since I added the Pinbot.

Current inventory..... Super Chexx, Pinbot, Tempest (loaner from a friend), Punch Out, and the converted Pac Man Mame box (still needs side art). Might end up divorced if I add too many more :)

Hard to find? It's one of the most common classics around and come up for sale/auction fairly often.

Depends on where you live, man. There are no nice Q*Berts up north.

The population of North Dakota is about 650,000 people. The population of Texas (Amr's location) is about 24 million. That might have something to do with the scarcity or abundance of Q*bert machines in those areas.

Based on the helpful commentary here, I've dropped the price (and will also do so on Craiglist) to $750. If I can move it, that's great..... If not, I'll figure a way to shoehorn it into the basement to join the other games :)

thanks again for the discussion

For what its worth, I think $750 is fair if its in exceptionally good condition. Personally, I'd want to see hi-res photos of the sides, front, back, cp, bezel, marqee, before I'd plunk down that amount. Low res pictures can be really deceiving. A poorly touched up side panel can look flawless in the right light at the right resolution. But if the game needs little to no attention then $750 is fair (I think).

I just sold one last week for $350.00.

Condition:

Working but sound cuts in and out
sides were painted brown
Nice bezel without peeling
nice control panel overlay
Raised Gottlieb door logo

I would say $500-$700 is pretty fair for a nice complete machine
with sideart intact.

man before i started learning how to work on arcades i passed on an original "broken" Q bert at an auction for $40.00 :-( ugh we live we learn lol.
