Hey all,

More progress made in the Q*Bert restoration. The control panel which was beat up really bad is 90% better than it was and there's not a lot more that can be done for the few imperfections in it. It's also been sanded down to remove the few rust spots. The question I have is do I need to primer or paint the cp before applying the new overlay? I didn't paint my Mappy cp before applying and it went fine. I don't want to cut corners so I thought I'd ask.

My second question is about the Gottlieb coin door. Is this just a regular over/under door that has that raised plate on it? Can I just find the plate and attach it or do I need to hunt down a complete door? I should note my Pole Position cockpit has a door with a raised area like the Gottlieb door but with no logo on it. Would that maybe be one I could use and put the logo on? Thanks all.

Edit: The door on my Pole Position cockpit looks identical but the Gottlieb plate is missing. I'm sure PP didn't come with this door originally. Was the Gottlieb logo just an adhesive backed plate?

the gottlieb logo plate screws in. its not a decal. lets see a pic of the pp coin door. The coin door that needs the plate is a wico coin door and they were used on gottlieb and sega games.

Pengo's used the same door as "some" Q*berts... So, if you find a pengo door with the raised area for the logo that would work as well. But, Mad Planets almost all had standard over/under doors.

yea i have a sega door with a blank plate on it now. still looking for gottlieb one. they dont come up for sale often.

I went ahead and took the door off and put a different one on the Pole Position. This definitely is the right door, but with a blank plate. I'd love to find the Gottlieb plate but this is a start.

Primer is optional. I always paint though. Paint will give the cpo a nice surface to adhere to. It will also make the cp look nicer if the cpo does not completely cover the cp or is applied slightly off.

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and put some rustoleum paint on since I was already re-painting the coin door.

Door

I have a Wico coin door in the for sale section. Sadly, no Gotlieb plate on it though. Just the spot for one. My pengo also has the same door. I have seen them on Krulls also.

Another quick question as I'm moving forward....is there anything done to actually hold the black monitor shroud in place? It looks like it just sits right against the tube and maybe partially in that slot in the back where the bezel sits. The monitor frame doesn't have anything on it where you would screw it on place like the Midway games.

i'd like to know as well as i just sat mine on top of the monitor without bolting it down.

A guy from Europe restored his and had some wooden rails on either side of it but I'm 99% sure it's not factory. It seems like it will sit fine with nothing but the plexi bezel kinda holding it in, but I would also think something else must hold it.

small staples. on mine the staples and a small bit of the mask had torn off and it was taped. i didn't retape or staple it and it seems to stay in there just fine with the pressure of the filter glass and bezel on it.
