Hello all,

new to these forums if you cannot tell but I had a question.

Recently I went to an auction and picked up a Taito Puzznic tabletop arcade for about 50 bucks.. I am generally happy with the purchase as the item works but I was wondering if it was possible to put a different board in it..

I am really sorry if doing such a thing is taboo but I wanted to see what my options are with this thing.. I enjoy the game but not enough to give it permanent residence in my room.

Thanks everyone for any help you can give me!

Your Puzznic game probably isn't original in the first place (most table/cocktail machines were produced from 1978-1983 and when you see a later game in one it was probably a kit).

A lot of other game boards could work in your machine, but you would probably need to add a second button, as many hundreds of games share the same jamma wiring as Puzznic but most will have more than one button.

I think I messed up what you call this thing.. I was told tabletop but upon further inspection I found tabletop also meant those small bar top ones..

Anyways, this is one of the table/Cocktail ones. It is setup for 2 players with a joystick and 6 buttons on both front/back and coin op on the side. (3 additional buttons on first player side for 1,2 player + unlabelled button) For Puzznic it has the left/right setup like the original but I agree with you about this thing being rebuilt.. The inside is fairly dirty and the CRT is badly placed (Magnet near left side, game going over boarders).

So about the swapping, the only thing I would need to do is make sure I confirm the wires and place them properly in the new board? (Bit nervous when playing with wiring as I don't want to fry this thing)..

Little followup.. What board should I replace this with? I was looking at something like Space Invaders but I want to find something that can use the 2 player setup properly. (It isn't a big deal but it would be fun to have a good 2 player game aside from puzznic.)

Thanks again!

I assumed you were talking about a cocktail and not a bartop.

Space Invaders won't work for a whole bunch of reasons. Any game that is listed as using JAMMA wiring, a standard resolution horizontal monitor and that doesn't use any strange controllers should work. Most games have a cocktail game mode so they can properly flip back and forth between players.

The game board itself just plugs into an edge connector and the new one would as well.

Haha, well I appreciate the information as I would be lost without it. Well time to hit up ebay and get myself a new board..

Thanks for all the help tbbk!

(PS: Geeze, searching JAMMA got me a bunch of $200+ boards.. Might have to search a bit harder haha)
