Putting together a music CD to play downstair in the arcade. Trying to recall the popular music that they played back in the 80's. Any suggestions on what to put on the CD?

Gotta have Van Halen's "Jump" --

"I get up, and nothin' gets me down"

I know that Van Halen can evoke strong emotions among music enthusiasts, so I'd like to side-step any "great/crap band debates" and point out it was a music anthem for the early 80s, and was probably one of the earliest videos I regularly watched on shows like Friday Night Videos.

Guitars AND synthesizers -- an amazing 80s combo :D

Van Halen is good. On the other message board they mention Kid Rock. Can't stand his shit music. I should download Pac-Man Fever. Haven't heard that song in ages.

Another classic that we heard a lot is Journey. Not that crappy don't stop believin song, but maybe seperate ways or be good to yourself. Also the cult was played a lot lol.

Some bands I remember hearing were Billy Squire, Pat Benatar, Sammy Hagar, Night Ranger, Police, and so on. Pretty much if it was popular in the 80s and rocking that what I usually heard.

A thought...don't use a cd. You will get burned out on the 10 to 15 songs...fast! Run a pc into your receiver and stream mp3s on random from a directory or a playlist. If a pc is not an option how about a cd of mp3s? If your cd player does not support them look for a cheap dvd player. A lot of them support mp3 audio playback. It's usually marked as such on the drawer. I have noticed a lot show up at thrift stores since blu-ray has caught on a bit more.
