Good grief what a pain in the neck. I'm trying to install a set of plastic protectors on my LOTR and it is not easy. So much stuff to remove and nothing is free standing, each piece has something else connected to it and so on and so on! If anyone has done this please share your tips.

With part of the playfield disassembled I might as well clean it and wax it lightly. I plan to use Novus #2 and then some johnsons paste wax but there is no way I'll get to every spot unless I do a complete strip, which is not happening. Any concerns with just a partial wax? I always read the cleaning playfield posts and wonder if people are all doing complete tear downs...

Well, here's the deal. If you do a full teardown and clean, it's highly unlikely that you'll ever need to do it again if you do regular wipe down and waxes of the general area, all those hidden areas will stay clean for quite some time.

On the other hand, if you leave those hidden areas unclean, they'll dirty up the rest of the machine more often. Those pinballs go everywhere on that machine, and if there's dirt around, they'll spread it.

If you're not up to a full teardown, you'll be fine just waxing the accessible areas. You'll need to do it more often, and your pinballs will wear a little faster, but it's not too big of a deal unless your hidden areas are really dirty.
