All,

I have some extra games that I was thinking of putting in a public location.

What are the cost sharing models normally?

I have two games out in breweries. At one location I split 50/50 at the other location I split it about 66.6/33.3 where I keep more of the quarters. That particular brewery owner is just happy that the game is there and his patrons enjoy it. Try shooting for that model and you can always fall back on 50/50. I have found that people actually go to these breweries to specifically play the games (and drink). Both owners have told me about patrons that show up with rolls of quarters to play the games, which is pretty cool. So you may be able to sell it as it will differentiate them and potentially help bring people in. For example, if you put them in a laundry mat, they may get more people coming in because they know they can play a few games they like while they wait. I know I would be more inclined to go there! Good luck.

You should ask Freckledpeas. He's relatively local (in Washington) and has a few machines on location.

He and I have discussed me going in on a few, sometimes.

50/50 is pretty much standard. 75/25 is normal if you are running redemption games and are paying for the tickets and prizes and/or plush toys for cranes. Some operators go 75/25 on games that are brand new until they are paid for. If you are doing video and pinball only 50/50 is probably the way to go. What are you thinking of running, anything newish? Otherwise, your best bet is probably hunting, driving, gun and golf games. Really core classics like Pac/Ms. Pac or Galaga might work also. If you are putting games in a laundromat setting, vertical scrolling shooters (such as Raiden) are a good way to go. Don't forget to check into tax regs for your state/city. Are tax stickers required where you live? Are certain games such as 8-liners (Cherry Master and the like) not allowed by law? There are some guys on here who do run games or are/have been operators. I worked for 2 different operators for a couple of years. Its been a while so my info may be out of date. Anybody else care to toss in their 2 cents?

Get liability insurance too, or youll live to regret it.

If you do a laundrymat, make sure there's always an attendant there. If it's the kind where people do their own stuff with no attendant, they'll steal the games. I don't mean, steal quarters out of the games... I mean steal the whole fucking game. LOL I worked for an op, took him a few times to learn that lesson.

I'd price my games at no less than 50c/play.
Adjust option settings to get 2-3min play averages,
where possible. Secure cash & coin doors and also
put a bolted hasp and padlock on the back door too.
Do not use wood screws, they can be ripped out easily.

I'll be happy to send you some used security bars taken off some games I've restored. Just pay shipping. They are at least a couple of pounds apiece. You can see the kind hanging over the coin door in the picture below:

:) Thanks everyone.

Ken, I might take you up on that offer as a couple of the games I am thinking of have the holes already.

This is in a movie theatre and has attendants around all the time.

One of the games I am thinking of a Tron. Should do well with the movie coming, I would think...

my friend Scott mows a local bar owner's grass. he has some deal with some folks from up in the Big City No Pity who gives him about 150-200 dollars a month to keep some games there. 2 GOLDEN TEES a SILVER STRIKE and a BIG GAME HUNTER.
big laughs over the monthly amount, probably barely pays the electricity !
Scott says the owner doesnt care because he likes to have the games there for his customers.

maybe you could get a deal like that
