graphical glitches on my playchoice 10 games

Nevermind, read next post...

Okay, I figured this part out... now, I'm having an issue with every single cart having graphical glitches. On the NES, as a child, I would blow into the cart... lol... well, what do I do here?

To add more info, the info screen is perfect. Shows all the games in their slots, they all start up, but when the game is playing, that's where my glitching comes in. When I go to the "how to play" menu, that's perfect again.... back to game, screwed up.

I tried takign all the games out and putting just one game in many slots. The very exact same style of blocky glitches happens every slot, every game. What's going on here?

A fixable problem? I asked for a working board when I bought this... so far, not working so well. Sound works. Menu system is fine. What's going on here with the graphics? Something I can fix? I've screwed with it for hours and am getting no results.

One more thing (and I'm just being hopeful), but could it be a dip switch setting? When I got this, the first thing I did is went to this website: http://members.verizon.net/~vze3b3qa/pc10/pc_10dip.htm and flipped the dips on this to what I wanted. I remember a few were up in odd places. I doubt this will help me, but I'm desperate at this point.

Sorry for the darkness of the pcb pics. This is the "01" version of the board.

As you can see, the game has weird graphical glitches. All games have consistent glitching. In other words, it's usually the same blobs you see for each game, in every slot.

whoops, forgot one...

I show the main screen, just for the fact to show that it looks good until the game actually starts, then all hell breaks loose.

Play choice 10

Looks like a cartage problem from the picture, but if its doing it on ever cartage that it cant be unless ever cartage is bad

Try replacing the Z80 if resetting does not get it. Make sure the sockets are free of anything such as dust loose packaging supplies can of air or contact cleaner is good for that. Try Wiggling the edge connector while the game is on and see if the image changes. do you have the correct power in the correct places? going to the board? any bent legs on the cartage? use a eraser on the edge connector on the board?

Can a flakie zilog & company cause that?

Jeremiah

None of those suggestions helped, I'm afraid. Same exact issue. I removed everything and reseated them. The edge connectors are FINE as they don't do anything. And every single game can't be bad in the exact same way. Anyone else have ideas? Any way a multimeter can help me here somehow? What chips deal with graphics?

It was suggested to me that I may have to replace the roms on there (the ones with the windows on them) as they get corrupted. I think this is horse shit that I have to replace something on a board that's supposed to be 100% working. Where the hell do I get these and how much will they cost?

I'm getting pissed off.

One thing to understand with some PCB sales. Tested working = a quick power up to see main screen. No clue if seller tested, powered it up for a sec, or nothing at all. If all carts are acting up, roms on main pcb would be my starting point :)

dude why havent you called me?

Id check the voltages.. if your 5 volts is low that could cause all kinds of weired issues like this... DId you get a meter yet?

mike

Yep, I have a meter.... voltages are fine. It's the pcb, not the cab.

On a side note, you still want that old monitor you helped me with? I'm replacing it. I am giving up on it. ;)

i got to thinking about this and im thinking theres a RAM issue somewhere or the z80 is messed up...

if theres a bad ram that might cause this, stuff getting forgotten or put int he wrong place etc..

do the pc 10 boards have a self test function?

Just says ROM TEST then says EV OK, EW OK, ET OK... everything's okay, supposedly. Then, it just shows me what my dips are set at and allows me to go into a book keeping mode. Nothing more.

The thing that strikes me as odd is there are four rom chips on there (which I had new ones installed), but it only talks about three on there. And they are NOT called EV, EW, ET. But, I'm sure that's all normal.

One thing I noticed, when I looked for this problem with the search function is this: One guy had some cut traces (three to be exact). He says that after fixing them, his scrambled graphics went away. I've looked this board over very closely, and cannot see any such thing. I've even tested continuity on a lot of the board with a multimeter to make sure (pins on the parts side going to the solder side, making sure it's going through.... I'm stumped.
