i want to put some extra buttons on a control panel but don't want to deface the control panel so I'm wondering if I can find some type of buttons that just stick to a surface? I can hide the wires. is there anything like that? I'm going to need 8 buttons total, so something that has multiple buttons together would work too. any ideas?

the buttons can be tiny or weird shaped, they will only get very occasional presses and not be used for actual gameplay.

Thought about putting them under the control panel in the bottom side of the "shelf"

How about some smt switchs and some wire wrap wire?
A little double stick tape. Solder the wire to the switch before sticking to the CP.

Functional but not very pertty. Not for game play it won't put up being banged on.

maybe you can use one of those atair cone shape switch rings. Put the swtich in the middle of that and cut a small peice of plastic to act like the plunger? you might need to cut a little groove so the wires can be threaded to the side..

Just a thought.

Alpha sparked a thought. Doll house builders use a flat two conductor tape to run lights, etc. along the walls, ceilings, etc. Then thry paint over it. Never seen it in use, but perhaps that's a testament to it's effectiveness.

what game is it? if its a common cab just build your own custom cp from a used one that way you save the original one from bieng hacked up..

Maybe modify a numerical keyboard from a ColecoVision, Intellivision, Atari Keypad (can make custom overlays for them).

it's an MK 2/3 machine. I have a vga/audio switch in so it will run MK1-3 with Mame and the new MK from an xbox 360. xbox 360 has 4 more buttons per player than the original MK cp has. I guess I don't really need some of them, but I do need the xbox button, the back button, and the start button (have that one) so I need at least 2 extra per player, but would like to go ahead and have all the buttons there in case, so 8 total extra buttons.

this needs to interface with button wires to a hacked xbox 360 controller.

some sort of little button box would work, that I could just velcro to the cp at the top out of the way.

I would make a new CP with the holes you need . If it is a dedicated MK-MKIV cab then it should be very easy to make. I've made CP's out of plywood for these before. You can then use your new CP or swap out the original if you decide to sell the game.
