The purity rings on one of my monitors is messed up . Looks like the glue came off and they are now loose and look out of place . They were marked with a yellow pen so thats good .

I've never messed with purity rings before how should it go back together ?

Well, start by lining up the yellow.

Most monitor manuals have convergence instructions in them....

Also there should be a plastic type nut that goes around the neck and behind the purity rings to hold them tight. It looks like this may be completely loose or missing, so getting the rings to stay in one spot may be hard.

There is a plastic ring there at the top , on the neck board side , a couple rings are still glued to it but the rest are free . Is that the piece you are talking about ? I tried to take a better picture .

Yeah, that white part should screw on to hold them tight. I'd rip the glue off and maybe put new on when you get it right again.

Is there anything I need to watch out for on the neck while I adjust these rings which I can get zapped by ?

Don't touch the monitor frame???

Why not?

I don't understand what that plastic white piece is supposed to screw on to .

I'm taking the monitor to a TV repair guy to set this up , its all out of place .

I was reading the convergence/purity steps for my K7500. funny find, the earth's magnetic polarity plays a huge role in the adjustments.

obviously, it says to let the unit warm up for 15 minutes. but the coolest one was to make sure you face the monitor west/east.

and yeah, this whole process doesn't sound very fun. I need a big mirror, stat.

I talked to a TV repair guy on the phone and he thinks its more than the purity rings and something bad happened to the tube and messed the monitor up when I was picking up the game and driving it home . The monitor did work fine at the sellers house when I bought the game . Or do you think the tube might be fine and it is the purity rings out of place screwing everything up ? The rings were marked with a pen so I can line them up but the picture still looks like this .

Turn the machine off and leave off for ~15 minutes. Turn it 180 and turn it back on.
Does the discoloration change? It looks like this monitor needs to be degaussed. in a bad way. The rings have the yellow line - if the are all aligned then loosen and rotate the ENTIRE ring assembly and see if the image clears up at all. Also try sliding the ENTIRE assembly back and forth a tad.

The curling on the side would tend to tell me most likely a cap kit is necessary but for kicks and grins center that picture up and then widen it out. Does it still curl on the edge? If so cap kit it.

I turned the machine 180 and the discoloration did improve a little bit and the focus , but everything was pretty much the same . The left side of the screen has a blue background and then it fades into a red background on the right . Now when you say move the entire assembly do you mean just the rings ? Because after I line up the rings according to the pen marking , I then rotate them as a group around and up and down over the tube to see if things change but nothing changes much , just gets more out of focus and the colors on the left side of the screen improve a little .

As far as the curling , when I adjust the screen position the curl stays with the image as I move it around the screen .

Just out of curiosity... Did you make sure the neck board was pushed firmly on the back of the tube?

Yeah I double checked the neck board and its in place . Heres another pick with it moved 180 , the colors on the left side of the screen look like they're trying to be correct but the right side is way off .

Man it almost looks like the damn degaussing coil isn't hooked up and/or working.
I just sped through this thread and I don't see what monitor model this is.

Also - the new pic sure looks like it's typical fold over on the right side - but just to make sure center that picture and then widen it full screen.

Not to over look the obvious but do you have another game you can hook this to or another boardset to try? I'd feel foolish chasing a problem that was board related ;)

You can also LIGHTLY tap the tubes neck (not neck board but the physical skinny part of the tube) with an object - if there's build up on the guns sometimes it'll knock it loose. Key word here is LIGHTLY.

Also turn all your neck adjustments to about half. Then adjust the flyback brightness and focus.
