Purchased a Burger Time today and need...

I can't wait to start a BT restore. I used to have one years ago but had to sell it when I moved to FL. I have already ordered the new bezel, overlay, etc. and now just need to find a cab. Will be a full stencil job and should look awesome. Nice pickup. Get it running and it will be a favorite.

Wow, that was a great deal. The sideart actually looks pretty good until you move your eyes down and see the chewed up corner.

For $50 bucks thats a sweet deal. Restoration means different things to
different people. If you wanna make it look like new.. its gonna cost but
It will be rewarding in the end if you want you games to look really nice.
I like the challenge personally. Those burgertime stencils are complex. Not
only 3 colors a side but the detail is quite high. LOTS of weeding out tiny
pieces of stencil material to make those. I'd say $150 is fair. I have a cutter
but I'll order them from Rich before I cut them myself. They look like a big PIA to make.

You took on this project at the right time.. all the art is finally becoming available
for these. Marquee and CPO are done and Glass Bezels are coming in late Nov/Early Dec.

Like other have said.. you might be able to touchup the side art and get
a good paint match against the back door to fix the areas you need to Bondo.

Good Luck.. I look forward to seeing the progress!

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. Restoring the cabinet should be fun. As for the side art, it has more damage than it would appear from a quick glance at the auction photos. I will post some detailed pictures later this weekend and ask everyone to weigh-in on the possibility of actually saving the side art.

No matter what, the bottom of the cabinet needs replaced due to the water damage. I look at it this way, worst case I spent $50 and now I have all the original cabinet hardware and the perfect template to cut-out a fresh cabinet. However, that is not my goal...just a fall back plan if the damage is to extensive.

The weather should be nice this weekend. I will snap some pictures, clean up the cabinet and come up with a plan for the restoration.

i am still amazed people think reproduction shit grows on trees. Take for example mspac stencils.. i just bought a vinyl cutter. Stencil material is 230.00 to your door, that makes 3 sets of ms pac stencils, 76.67 And you need R tape to complete the stencils, that's 135.00 a roll, it's enough for 12 sets.. 11.25 so you have 87.92 before you even cut them. Add in electric, wear and tear on the machine, stuff you need like squeegies, exactos, time to cut, time to weed it all out, and R-tape it all, plus box it all up.. and people think stencils should cost 100?

Just another example of why this hobby can really suck. Not picking on the OP but damn. someones gotta say it.

i gotta buy retail, and searched and searched for the best prices. Hook a brother up if you know where to get Oracal 813 48" wide by 50 yards, and 48" R-tape in 300 foot rolls cheaper! :D

Dont thank Brett for the math. lol Im the one who has been bitching about this for 2 years, and laid it out for him!! The guys who are making stencils are not making shit on the stencils themselves, and still have people gouging prices and bitching about it. The price I did these last paint jobs for will be the absolute last at that price!! :-D On a lighter note, the new shop is shaping up nicely and will be up and functional a lot faster than I thought.

I honestly had no idea what it cost to produce stencils but my gut said $150 seemed high. Again, that was my gut and not an educated statement so I posted the question to get some input. Many people here have been very helpful in the short time I have been posting on this message board.

I also collect sports cards and you see dealers rob the new guy blind all the time. You learn to ask and do some research. Even now, I've had people try and sell me arcade related items at 2x or more the going rate. For example, I tried to get glass cut for a cocktail before joining this forum. A few people quote $100 or more...insane, I found a local place that did it for $55.

At the end of the day, $150 might turn out to be a great price for stencils...but I had to ask before spending the money.

it's no problem man... it's just been an ongoing trend lately. Lowball around here is the norm. i just get irritated easy. Someone on the forum went out of thier way to make a repro art piece recently and at a VERY fair price and someone was asking for a "deal" in the first or second reply. The OP was polite about it, if it were me not only would they have heard a good fucking off, i secondly would refuse to sell to them. People don't go into mcdonalds and try to haggle down the price of a big mac for fucks sake, why shit on the people TRYING to make stuff for this hobby. (again, not this OP, in general)

Beleive me.. the fun factor wore off for me quite some time ago in cabinet making, and the hobby in general is on the same path.

Don't worry about it man....you are new here and new to the hobby. It's easy to see where you would think it should be an inexpensive item to pick up. It's only when you learn more about what it takes to make these things(both supplies and time) that you have a better appreciation for guys like Rich who produce some amazing things at very reasonable prices.

There are many in this hobby that DO charge outrageous markups on the items they produce. There are also many who will try to take advantage of those new or unfamiliar with the hobby, so it's not a bad thing to question things if you aren't sure. This forum is full of great people who will help you avoid being taken advantage of.

The best suggestion I can give you is to make heavy use of the search functionality...compare prices of recently sold items, read feedback so you have a good idea of who to deal with and who to avoid, and ask questions if your answer can't already be found using the search. :001_ssmile:
