The Burger Time cabinet I purchased today has seen better days, much better days. Poor Peter Pepper...there is no way I can salvage the original artwork. This project will be a complete restore.

I really don't want to go with a vinyl decal. Is there a place I can purchase Peter Pepper stencils?

Thanks.

So you are the one who won the eBay auction on that one? I thought about bidding to rescue it, but didn't. :)
Restoration generally requires quite a bit of time and funds...Most of the time you end up with much more in a restoration cab than if you had purchased a working model in great shape.
It's a time consuming process, but will make you appreciate the game once you finish resurrecting it :)

The price Rich is charging for stencils is very reasonable compared to others...I think his are the most reasonable you will find and the quality of his work is unparalleled.

Congrats on the purchase and good luck on your restoration...
If you get overwhelmed and decide it's more than you want to deal with, let me know...I'd be glad to bring that thing back to life :)

Yes, that was me and I got the game at lunch today. I purchased it knowing the game would required a ton of work. This is my new "hobby" so restoring the game over this winter should be fun....keep me out of trouble. Plus, I really like the cabinet style. Burger Time and Track & Field just remind me of 80's and playing arcade games as a kid.

I know it would be cheaper in the long run to track down a cabinet in nice condition but the plans for the arcade in my basement are limited to a handful of games. I will appreciate the games more if it is something I restore myself. I built a movie theater in my basement last winter...something I'm proud of and enjoy more because I designed and built most of it.

The seller of the Burger Time was nice guy and very forth coming about the condition. I spoke to him for 30 minutes or so and he even mentioned plans to open are arcade locally one day. He had a few interesting ideas I wonder if he will ever get the project off the ground.

I also wonder what my wife will have to say about my latest acquisition? :)

Great to hear you have the passion for restoration....not a lot of people do :)
I think I have just as much fun working on and restoring my cabs as I do playing them.

Hopefully your wife enjoys them as much as you do...it's a rare thing, but one that makes filling up that basement a lot easier if she does :001_sbiggrin:

Congrats again....can't wait to see your upcoming posts in the restoration forum. I'm no expert on restorations, but I've done a few...if you get stuck on anything, let me know...I'd be glad to help :)

Nice grab for $50 :)

Yea, it was.
I had a burgertime cabinet, but it was totally stripped and painted....
I am in the process of converting it to a Galaga.....

That Ebay cabinet really looked like the art was savable to me....
I'm getting ready to try and save a PacMan in far worse shape.

This was my Burgertime's fate.
While no longer a BT, it is still a classic.....
I want to see your BT restore process... my guilt will grow.....

(both these cabinets were about what you see here, stripped bare)

Wow! That's a pretty clean conversion to Galaga...I would never have thought to do that.

muchuckwagon actually won the burgertime...
I almost bid, but saw several bidders and didn't want to drive the price up. I wish I had won it though...the bezel looked clean and the PCB and harness alone were worth the $50 he paid...
I'm glad a fellow KLOVer got it and can't wait to see his restoration pics :)

before you go with the full repainting, I would think about just touching it up. It looks pretty decent.. Fix the dings on the bottom and maybe you will only have to paint 1 color..

+1

Fix the bottom edges... spend some time using Bondo to make the patches.
MAYBE, just maybe you will only have to touch up using the background color!!

That is in rough shape, but totally fixable with bondo but if you want it to look good, you will need to repaint it. Since you are in Ohio, one other option for you is to purchase a new BT cab from DPTWiz. This way, at least you are starting a new clean structure that doesn't need any bondo.

These two comments right here say you've got the right mind-set for this project & hobby. You'll appreciate that game so much more if you do the restoration yourself, just like your basement project.

Keep us updated on how it goes and welcome to the madness!

Thats what I would do... Pick up the new cab...

muchuckwagon - Good luck, that should be a fun project. If you have any questions, feel free to ask - lots of help here. The cabinet repair, especially something like replacing a bottom can get a bit overwhelming, but nothing is impossible and it's not fine furniture.
