Hi all,
I procured a working chassis that had been recently capped and slapped my tube onto it. I spent the better part of a day trying to adjust the picture to make it look...visible. I can't get the colors right. Neither of the two brightness controls on the chassis appear to do anything at all.

What's wrong with my 20-EZ monitor? I'd appreciate any suggestions, I know so little about these Nintendo monitors. Pics attached.

I bet your monitor is fine.....is your monitor using one of those inverter boards?...bypass it. It could also be a motherboard problem. Your two monitors are the same. You could always swap the input connector....see if the problem follows.

Great idea! I'll swap the connectors and see what it looks like.

What is an inverter board?

Was your boardset working before you replaced the monitor.
If not or unknown then I'd guess that one of the 3 color proms is bad
on the game board. Had a similar problem a few months ago and looked
about the same as yours.

Unknown; when I got the game the top monitor was dead. Interesting- where did you dig up replacement proms?

I get mine from HobbyROMs.
The inverter board is mounted on top of the high voltage cage. Nintendo games doesn't need it. If you're using a Sanyo EVZ monitor with another manufacturers game, you use it. Some Nintendo games doesn't even have it installed...some do. The inverter board has an input plug and two output plugs.....one is printed with inverted video out.....the other is non-inverted video out. If either of your monitors has the inverter board installed, make sure the output plug is plugged into the "non-inverted out" plug......or don't use the inverter board at all.

Thank you for the suggestions- I swapped the inputs, and the top monitor looks the same- so it shouldn't be a board issue.

I also bypassed the inverter board, again, no change in the picture.

All signs point to tube.

Interesting! So I bought a 20EZ from a local KLOV member who said that the tube on it was bad, but the chassis should be fine. I took the orignal tube from my Punchout and slapped his chassis on it, and low and behold, still looks like a tube problem?

I guess I could have 2 bad tubes. But wow. It looks like there is just too much green on the screen, I can't get white on it at all.

I'm not an expert by any means, but that's what it seems like to me. I'm sure dokert or spaeth or ken layton will come and tell me how dumb I am any minute now. :)

Meanwhile, three years later and finally working on Punch Out again-

it was the sub bright adjustment VR301 that was making it this way. Turned it to the right and all is well- after a replacement flyback and HOT...
