Well, I finally had time to get working on this Punchout cab that I've had sitting here for about 3 years. When I first got it, the power supply was bad, as was the PCB. I grabbed a new power supply, then bought a working PCB from Fatchuck. I restored the CP almost 2 years ago, then kinda stopped working on it.

Over the weekend, I hosed the cab down, inside and out. I then sanded and bondoed the major holes and dings. I also hosed both Sanyos off and capped one of them. Here's where she stands as of last night. Hope to knock this one out by the end of June, hopefully before.

good luck on the project and can't wait to see the end results. I wish I had an empty garage like yours you have alot of space for more games.

I was just about to comment on your gayrage as well...

I was tired of it looking like cluttered shit. 20+ restos (and 10 current projects) over the course of 5 years has taken it's toll on this place. Paint over spray on the floor and walls, boxes, bags and bins of parts and crap everywhere, etc. I ripped down crappy temporary shelves, rerouted some low voltage wiring and started throwing shit away. I cleaned one half of it (even hosed down the floor) then started installing the composite brick paneling to give it an urban feel. I will now paint the ceiling and epoxy the floor on this side, then clean the other side out and give it the same treatment. The wall you see in the pics will get a few road signs, a couple weathered posters and a neon or 2 but will otherwise remain open. I will have a wall of games where you see the DK mini when I am done, alleviating some of the overcrowding in the game room.

Looks clean. I wish I could get motivated enough to clean my garage. When I say I'm going to clean and de-clutter, all I do is walk around in circles moving tools to and from- never really getting anything done.

Control panel was powdercoated.

Someday you will rid yourself of those training wheels and ride on 2 wheels.

Is there a reason why the brick pattern is different above the door?
It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb.
Otherwise it looks nice.

Hi! It's supposed to replicate a Sailor Row (a row of bricks laid vertically with the broad sides exposed). Normally bricks are turned vertically or set vertically in a slight arch over doorways as a design element and for added structural strength (like a header in the wood framing). Thanks for asking.

We're on the same page! I'm kinda in the beginning stages of one myself. I started the Bondo on mine last Fall and need to sand. I just got all the metal back from powdercoating though.

Sweet. Yeah I had the brackets and coin doors powder coated as well. Just gotta find the damn things. It's been over a year since I had them done.

Now after 8 - yes 8 bondoing sessions, I have graduated to this:

Yes, I know it doesn't look much better, but trust me it is. This has been the shittiest cab that I have ever restored. It seems to have had water damage or something, as many of the screws and a lot of the galvanized hardware have rust. No matter how many times I sand and bondo, it never seems to get that much better. The plywood is very dry and brittle and just keeps chipping. Because of that, I decided to order black laminate for the cab rather than trying to get the surface to look perfect with bondo. I did finally finish the interior area, but I'm tired of wasting my time with the outside. Laminate should be here today or tomorrow.

When disassembling the cab, I realized that many of the 3/4" square hardwood dowels were simply unusable:

One of them was so dry it hairline cracked into 4 short pieces. The one that stayed intact (above) was bent, warped and had this nice bark/knot anomaly:

I just cut new pine 3/4" dowels to length, marked all the screw holes from the old ones and installed them instead:

Here's some of the interior hardware all sanded and sprayed with cold galvanizing compound:

I have 2 Sanyo EZV monitors all rebuilt and ready to go. Both have Punchout burn, but what better place to put them. More pics of the cab before laminate and reassembly:
