I'm bummed,
I FINALLY got my PunchOut Resto done today, put the monitors back in, everything worked fine for about an hour, I came back out to admire my work and the bottom monitor is washed out with blue??? Could this be the blue Prom on the game PCB for the bottom monitor? I don't think it is a monitor issue?? Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thanks guys

Are you sure you didn't just bump the B-BIAS dial? I believe it's on the board that fits onto the back of the neck. It should be labeled. The manual says it's VR252, but go by what's printed on the board as the diagrams in the manual I have don't match 100% to the monitors I have.

Oh. Remember that since this game has two identical monitors in it you can just swap the video connectors and see if the problem is duplicated on the other monitor. If it is, then it's the board. If not, it's the monitor.

Yeah I def didn't bump anything, it was working fine, and I came back a few min later and it had that blue tint to the monitor.
yep, that was the first thing I did was swap the vid input to the monitors, and yes the problem FOLLOWED the signal to the top monitor!
I am leaning toward it being the 8F, but just would like someone to confirm that they have seen this before?

I personally have not, but I've read on these forums that it's common for the color PROMs to go bad on Punch-Out!!.

Yeah me too, but from the sounds of it, when they fail, they have NO blue? Or maybe they are ALL blue? There was only one thread where a guy had a problem like mine, and there was no follow up after he said he was going to replace the 8F?
On a side note I had a sound issue with this machine too. I'm just throwing this out there in hopes that it'll help someone in the future. I KNEW the sound amps were good, cause I just rebuilt them. The machine had some sound, pretty much all EXCEPT the music, and punch/hopping fighter sound effect. It had the, announcer, however crowd sound was on and off, and when the music was supposed to play, I would get some static sounds......
I had a spare DK3 board laying around so I stole the sound chip RP2A03 off it, and put it on the punchout PCB. IT FIXED MY SOUND ISSUES!! Now I just need to find a replacement, so I can get my DK3 board back together. Anyone know where they sell these for less than the $25 Mikes arcade wants for one?

Well this odd problem seems to have fixed it's self!!! Turned the game on the next day, it worked! I hate this kind of thing, the game works perfectly now. I ordered the BLUE prom just in case. The only thing I can think of was my garage was about 95deg and 100% humidity the other day when this thing was giving me problems? Maybe something was hot? That is the only thing I can think of? I'm going to let it run for a few days. Thoughts??

I had a couple of proms go on my Punch-Out over the years. When my bottom blue went, my entire screen was NOT blue like yours. Rather, the fighters hair was all blue. Glass Joe,Piston etc...all had blue hair, and the background crowd was also an off blue. Next time you SUSPECT a certain prom to have gone bad. Pull the suspected BAD prom, then put the PCB back in and play as a test run. You "should" be able to narrow down the bad prom this way. I was able to track down a bad prom using this method twice.

Cool thanks, good to know. I suppose they could fail in different ways and give different "symptoms". I got the PROM from Hobbychips yesterday. In the mean time I have logged 30 or so hours on the machine and it is still running fine?? Not sure what to think of that.....

that may sound like a loose edge connector at the pcb. Make sure the edge connector main harness is pushed in all the way at the filter. If its kind of half in half out you will get the results you described. If it was a bad prom, in all likely hood, it would STAY bad. NOT be good one minute and bad the next. You may also want to take the time to re-seat all chips on the pcb. over time they have been known to wiggle from the sockets giving half ass results. Don't look as your prom purchase as wasted money, always nice to have a spare around, you just never know

That very well could be, the problem first started after I took the PCB out to put new batteries in it??? I THOUGHT I put things back tightly? Maybe not?
Welp, I marked that chip as "Blue PROM bottom monitor" and put it in my parts bin. Maybe one day it'll be needed!
