I have an original Punch Out in a great condition cabinet. I am attempting to restore this unit.
The upper monitor has bad burn in as the image NEVER really changes on the top monitor that displays score, life meter and opponent etc......

The lower monitor where the game is played has started GHOSTING and blurring some images.
I don't assume I would get lucky and this could just be a cap-kit replacement?

The game itself plays very well. Audio is crisp as you could ever want for a 25 year old machine. My issue is monitor related. I have been told that Punch Out monitors were special in the sense that you could NOT just use another monitor from a DIFFERENT GAME? A lot of the early generation monitors were swappable just like old chevy parts.

I would really like to avoid having to use an adapter in turn replacing my monitors with standard TV's as it is JUST NOT The same Hi. res.

any suggestions?

Your bottom monitor will definitely benefit from a cap kit - the Sanyos have tons of caps that can lead to a lot of various problems. In regards to the top monitor - you can try to find a TV with a tube that will swap over, but I haven't heard of anyone swapping a tube on a Sanyo yet. I'm sure it can be done though, but its not as common as the older monitors.

You're right in that you can't just swap out Nintendo/Sanyo monitors. For starters, they run on 100v instead of 120v - DO NOT try to plug that monitor into a wall, it WILL blow out. Secondly, they often use a wierd color scheme....they invert the colors, so putting a standard monitor into a Nintendo game will require an inverter board for the colors to look right. It can be done - just not a straight up swap.

Post pics of your monitor in action.
That way we can get a better idea of what your issue is.

And as far as the upper monitor burn. Pretty much every upper PO monitor has really bad burn.
At least I haven't seen one that didn't have burn.
As long as you have the bezel on it shouldn't be an issue.

the upper monitor BURN in I can live with! You only notice it when levels change anyways. The BOTTOM monitor where the action is played is the problem

I have a photo here. If you notice "GLASS JOE'S" hair is LIGHT BLUE. Its suppose to be brown. Often the monitor with "GHOST" or "DOUBLE" on some fast movements within the game

Not sure if a Cap kit would restore this or if its a tube issue??

I would do a deluxe cap kit. Its a lot of caps but then you are pretty sure to clear up any issues.
