Punch Out!! Front Screen Available

OK....I'll send you a PM with the info. As I told the other guys, if I was doing this to make a buck I'd take paypal, but basically I'm just rolling the money through my checking account and writing a check to the fabricator just so I can get my piece made. I'd be taking a loss with the paypal fees and it's a pain to transfer to my checking account.

payment sent for 1. Can hardly wait to replace my scratched up plexi. Thanks Chuck for doing this.

Tom

Thanks goes to you guys too for going in blind and trusting my judgement. Without the ten of you this project would never have gotten off the ground. I feel confident that repro plexi from the fabricator will be difficult to distinguish from the original.

Greg,

First of all, didn't you tell me a few months ago that you paid $50 for your plexi from a fabricator in CA? That was without the border. Guys that have old pieces on this board are getting $30 - $35 with scratches. I have been searching for a fabricator for nearly two months without any success until I found this guy. Actually he was referred to me by a local Arcade repair company who uses him for her stuff. I've been to his shop and have seen his work. It's top shelf. Video Dan and I bought a backglass for our Pole Position cockpits from this guy. I'm the one who's calling it a "bender" since I have little knowledge of the proper terms. He's telling me that the unit goes for around $3000 but has been wanting one for a while and figures if he can get a 10 piece minimum order it will give him the motivation to get it. This guy isn't going to give me a shit piece and try to pass it off as quality. I won't accept it. You guys can all be naysayers and sit on your hands and do nothing but diss on these boards but I don't see anyone else coming up with any alternatives. If you want to help, give me the name of a "reputable" company that will make these for us. By the way, in response to a previous post, I will not accept masking and painting the border. That's a
half-assed way to get this done.

If prOK is a reputable source (I don't doubt he may do quality work), why didn't he give us the estimate he promised us 2 weeks ago and now why is he refusing to answer my PM's.

Come on guys. Give us some real help.

Chuck,
I think you may have taken my post in the wrong way. I wasn't meaning to come off offensively. I was just stating my concerns. You are correct in saying I paid fifty for mine, granted I only had one made but that is besides the point. If I was against this I wouldn't have offered my drawing of the bezel in the first place. I have received several PMs regarding this issue and I did voice my concerns but also stated I'm sure your intentions were good and that you would probably check the pieces before they went out. I also said if it were me I'd buy one. When I did mine, I had to do all the foot work, take the measurements from the cab, as I didn't have a bezel to start with. Draw it up. Fax it, answer questions etc. I would have paid $75 to save me the hassle. Like I said before, I'm glad your doing this for people. And I am in no way a naysayer. I hope that clears things up a little and doesn't make things worse. I hope they come out great. Post pics when they're done.
Greg

Thank you for your reply Greg. I have to admit, I was a bit steamed when I read your earlier post because of all the effort I put into finding a company who would make these. It wasn't as easy as everyone thinks. I didn't want those efforts wasted because a reputable and well respected poster thought the cost might be $10 too high. I also didn't care if Brian took on the project. My only goal was to get a piece made for my machine. But when Brian became unresponsive after several weeks, I had to push forward.

I really appreciate your last post. I'm certain the job will be a quality one. The fabricator has offered to take professional pictures of the completed glass in his studio and send them to me . I will be sure to post them.

Any updates?

The fabricator called me yesterday (Wednesday). He said he was expecting the glass today. He has been practicing the bend on junk glass and has it down. He says he expects to ship by next week. I will check them out before he ships.

I will post pictures of the finished product. If he decides to make them available on an individual basis, I'm sure that they will be a bit more expensive. Apparently he was surprised at the cost of the glass and he says he's not turning a profit on these. I guess the glass was a special order. When I see him, I'll ask.

I spoke to my fabricator today and the Punch-Out!! bezel project will be completed by tomorrow morning. I will be there in the morning to inspect the finished product before shipping and to complete payment to him. Thanks to the 10 guys (12 units ordered) that made this possible. I've just sent you all a PM. My guy says that he will make these available as a bulk order again (10 or more) but frankly I'm not planning on organizing another round. I spoke to him about making them available on an individual basis and he sort of groaned. I pressed him for a figure and he said "in the $85 - $90 range" plus shipping. In any case, even the bulk price would go up because he underestimated the cost of the special order glass and the labor to make these right. I guess the vinyl border throws a curve in the bending process. I will press him in the morning for final numbers for those who might be interested. I will also post pictures, hopefully by tomorrow night.

In the first post of the thread... it is stated it was plexi. I'm on the look out for one of the glass bezels myself. Although if these turn out good.. might switch over. Just a wait and see type of thing for me.
