Punch-Out - +5V wires touched the ground, I think

The more I fiddle with my Punch-Out, the worse it gets. Today I was trying to figure out why the lower monitor has been randomly losing power. While the game was still plugged in (stupid, I know), I checked the wires from the switching power supply, and noticed that the wires coming from the +5V were completely out from under the screw and resting between the +5V and the ground. As I put it back in, I think I hit the wires against both the +5V and ground at the same time.

Now the top monitor comes on every few times I turn the game on, and both screens either display garbage or just the Punch-Out/Nintendo logos- but very small. I have attract sound and the initial fire-up tune (sometimes), but that's it. The game won't coin up or play blind.

What did I do, and where should I start as far as fixing it?

Thanks in advance,
David

That's not fun. Somebody with more info will have to chide in, but since you're only dealing with 5v, and most 'chips' operate on 5v logic (either low=0, high=5, pulsing in between) you may have not actually fried anything serious.

Power supply is probably screwed up, though... does anything look burnt near the edge connector?

I'll have to check when I get home, but I didn't notice any burns when it happened.

Are you stocking up on broken games for the next Repair party?

So it would seem. :)

Just say when, and I'll be ready.

Well, then join the club :) I have to fix my Funhouse (keeps resetting to factory defaults when turned on, replaced batteries) and my Gyruss died after doing the HS Kit upgrade (probably due to the edge connector).

Probably going to have one after April, so if you don't fix it by then, we can look at it...
