SUBWOOFER POLL

My Space Invaders Deluxe has an awesome low bass. THUMP THUMP THUMP. And so I was thinking of recreating that in another cabinet.
Several suggestions can be found in this old thread:

I have many cabs but I need to pick one to start with ... which one should be first? Which should be second? :)

1. Battlezone
2. Space Duel
3. Asteroids
4. Tempest
5. Robotron
6. Centipede
7. Lunar Lander
8. Gravitar
9. Black Widow
10. Mad Planets
11. Assault
xx. "other?"

I've done my Tempest, and it's pretty badass. I also added reverb to the sub, which makes the warp between levels sound freakin awesome.

Lunar Lander is the next obvious candidate. I will be trying my Battlezone as well, which I'm very interested to hear.

It's very easy to mod the AR-II to add a sub out. Just tap on to either of the audio outs with a 10k resisitor.

Yes, for an Atari add-on, I was going to either take the line/audio-in from either I/O of the ARII. Should be fun.

I'm leaning towards either Asteroids (my favorite game) or Tempest or Battlezone. :)

Got a picture of your setup?

Turbo has a nice large speaker in it already for the engine noise. I was planning to swap it into Battlezone for a test to see if it makes any difference at all. It's more than enough over a powered sub.

It's actually better to tap off of the speaker line, rather than the line-in input to the AR. You can make any speaker-level signal into a line-level with a 10k resistor.

My setup is apart at the moment, but I just ran the tapped audio through one of my guitar processors to add the reverb, then into the powered sub.

Why Star Wars? I have UR and cockpit. What's "bassy" about Star Wars?

Damn, now I'm thinking of how to put SUBs in my cockpits. LOL

Possible to get a YouTube video of this in action? Sounds interesting.

Any recommendations for an amp?

Was lookin' in my Tempest upright ... not much room to add the woofer. :(
Might try the Asteroids first ...

You missed the obvious choice!

When Bass Rush came our for dreamcast a long time ago I thought it was a music bass game of some kind. A few friends still won't let that one go.

I just use a powered sub that I picked up at a yard sale for $20. You definitely need an amp, but having it built in just makes it easier.

Agreed.

I have a powered sub (120VAC) now but it's too big to fit in TEMPEST.
I think it may fit in Asteroids and Battlezone.

So, I've started looking for 12VDC alternatives but then you need the passive woofer, a 12V monoblock amp (or similar) and an AC/DC (12V) power supply. :001_scry:

I also want it to be a clean install and not have to modify the cabinet ...

Tonight I'm going to test the big powered woofer outside of Tempest and see/hear the effect.

Add a bass in a game would be fun but Do I really want to add bass to all my machines?

I was thinking, A bluetooth transmitter for the bass. That way I could just pair it up with any arcade machine.

I thought maybe a bluetooth audio switch for the bass. There are devices that will allow 2 sources. I haven't run across one that does more than 2 yet..

I am thinking An FM transmitter. That way I can use the arcade stereo to add more sound to a game. I can connect the bass to stereo system. This option only work if I am playing alone and not having an arcade party.

If I am going to up grade the sound on an sit down arcade machine. I could treat the wooden box that hold the arcade machine as a speaker in addition to adding a subwolfer
I would add a butt shaker like this one..
