I have a Pump It Up GX style cabinet that I picked up in my travels. When I got it, it worked fine. Recently the game would have issues booting up. Some days it would boot up and play and other days it wouldn't. Now it doesn't work at all. I think the computer is working but the hard drive may be no good? I see a fuzzy Andamiro splash screen then a black screen of death with white nonsense on a few lines.

I was hoping someone in here could point me in the right direction on getting this game running again as I have no clue what to do. I'm mostly a pinball guy so I don't know much about fixing video games or dance games. So please speak to me like I'm 10 years old. Any help much appreciated!

Problem solved! I opened up the machine and pulled out the cpu box. Looking inside the cpu box it was pretty dusty inside. So I blew out the dust with some compressed air. I reseated all cables and put it back together and got the game to boot. It went into a lock window stating the key was not detected. I reseated the cables going to the little key board and now it works great! I power cycled it a few dozen times. Seems to be working fine…just needed some cables reseated. Way easier than I was expecting!

Yeah, I can understand that. Pump it up is fun when it's working. I do worry about owning it as Im burdened with keeping it running. But it hasn't been too bad yet. I wish I was a better player. I might be too old for this game. Ha!

Pump It Up Exceed 2 and newer runs on standard computer parts, meaning you can replace the original components or even build a completely new system. The main IO board is shaped after a PCI card but interfaces via USB instead so it's very easy to make it work elsewhere. There's a community curated spreadsheet of compatible motherboards here alongside a basic list of NVIDIA graphics cards supported by different versions of the game, typically a GeForce FX 5200 is recommended for Exceed 2 - NX1, GeForce 7300 GS for NX2 - Fiesta 2 and GeForce 210 for Prime 1 - Phoenix.
