I finished pulling the mylar off of my Mr and Mrs Pacman today. Used goo gone. Seems like it was put on by an operator, not from the factory, it came off too easy. Very minimal paint lifting as you can see from pics. I just have to get the glue residue up, but I'm happy with the results. I had to take it off because a previous owner tried to take it off, and cut part of it with a razor, they f'd up a little of the playfield, but not too bad. First pic is showing it originally. then it shows the removal.

And the paint lifting result. Not too bad.

I've thought about pulling the one off my High Speed but I just haven't gotten to it. Most mylars weren't factory installed but came with the game IIRC. They would be fitted to the playfield to be put on without taking any parts off. If your mylar was a full sized rectangular sheet then it probably wasn't factory supplied but someone else's doing.

How did you use the goo-gone? I've seen some who use syringes to inject it under the mylar, others who just paper-towel it at the edge of it, and others who just pull it and use goo-gone to clean up the sticky.

My naked HS-

Used freeze spray / canned air and it came up pretty easy. The only lifted paint was from around the area the mylar was bubbled.

It wasn't rectangular, so it probably, like you said, came with the pin. As far as how i did it, i got goo gone in a big spray bottle, I dribbled a little bit along the edges of where I started. I let it sit for about 5 minutes, then I started pulling it up. I very slowly pulled as evenly and as slow as possible, stopping every couple of cm's to wipe up excess and dribble a little more along the pulling edge. It cam up in one peice, and I found the areas around the lights ended up being a little start for paint pull ups. Now there is just glue residue left, it seems to up easy, even a little bit of rubbing will ball up the glue. I think its just goingng to take a little albow grease.

I've removed mylar 3 times now. Honestly, I think the "proper" method is about as arguable about applying artwork via the dry or wet method.
I used the Goo Gone method - long process that ended up with a few insert black lining coming up as shown in picture above.
Freeze spray method - quicker than Goo Gone but same result as above
Dry method - same as above

After all methods I used Goo Gone to clean the glue off and Wiped it down with Naptha after ward.

I honestly don't feel any method is necessarily better. If I had to choose I'd order them as such
Dry method,
Freeze spray
Goo Gone
The dry method leaves the glue stuck down to the table which is helping protection against pulling up insert art otherwise.
Do what ever makes ya happy!

On both my MMPacman and my High Speed, I tried the Goo gone method, but being as impatient as I am tried the- canned air upside down- freeze method. I was happy with the way the mylar came off. I did have pull-up but it was minimal, and both the playfields I did were going to need a lot of touch-up because of ball wear, that were'nt covered by the mylar. Anyway, as Deadly says what ever works best in your case...

Looks awesome. Mr. & Mrs. Pac-Man is famous for wear around the maze and yours looks great. I've used all the methods mentioned and the heat method. It really comes down to the mylar, when/how it was applied, etc... but they'll all work. Some are better for different situations. Like everything in life... experience is expensive :)

Some system 11 games have horror stories when pulling mylar. If the factory paint was not fully cured and mylar applied I think it would destroy the playfield. I am 2 and 0 for system 11 games and mylar removal (HS and Whirlwind). I have done several WPC games and games that were diamond plated / factory clear and never had an issue pulling mylar.

The only major difference I see in removal is heat takes some of the adhesive up with the mylar and freezing it leaves all of the glue on the PF. If the paint is loose under the mylar it will come up with it. I like removing it myself but you have to decide if its something you really want to do becasue once you start your in it to the end. Good or bad.

First pin I ever had was BK2K and I tried to remove some super brown mylar. Yep, it was a horror story! No matter what I tried or how careful I was paint wouldn't stop coming up. Last I heard a collector bought it and is wating for CPR to do BK2K. Never again! Atleast not on a Black Knight 2000.

Yep.
"Pulling" is a slight misnomer. Freezing it there is little to no actual pulling. If its going to come off easily it will literally make a snapping sound and just lift off. I always test a small area in a discrete location. If it's not coming off easily its not coming off nice. High Speed has that "all or nothing" reputation for mylar.

Yeah pulling isn't the right word. Now unless I cannot see though the mylar I wont be touching it.
