Well, speculation about an announcement was right. Presenting the Sony NGP.

So the bad news is they're dropping the UMD. It will still have a memory card slot, just like the PSP Go. It says games will be available instore, I imagine that games will come on dedicated ROM cards? Hopefully it's not all digital download.

It uses a new type of storage media for retail games. It's also backwards compatible for PSP download titles... but they really need to offer some kind of UMD transfer utility with DRM. They should have released a similar utility for the PSPGo by now though so probably won't happen.
I still don't think Sony 'gets' it for portables. Do gamers really want a 6-8 hour story driven console style game in a handheld? Nintendo and other developers seem far more logical by focusing on short level, segmented, pick up and play games.
I don't think I like the look, but I'll try to reserve judgement until I see one in person. I think the first PSP still has a really nice look and feel to it, something the PSP Go and new PSP phone are both lacking.I like the look. I'm going to be pissed if its digital only.
Looks kinda weird, but shit, they put everything in that thing! Multi-touch OLED screen, two analog sticks, multi-touch rear panel, 3g, 2 Cameras, speakers. And..a 4 core processor?!?!!?
This thing is going to be soo expensive!
Again...how are gamers supposed to play this with only one arm and one leg?
But after thinking about it a bit more, it's basically a portable PS3 (minus blu-ray). I think they could have tried a bit more with the redesign of it as it basically looks like all the ones that have come before. But I'm guessing hardware had a lot to do with it.
My guess is it will be $350-400 plus whatever it costs for 3G service.
I'm not following why it would need to be OK to play with one arm and one leg.
3G is free on other devices (Like the Kindle) so it could be bundled.
It was a joke. Like the saying goes, it's going to cost an arm and a leg. Was that a stretch?
Knowing Sony, I'm thinking 3G won't be free. But crossing fingers for that.
Oh, lol. I thought you were handicapped or something.

That may not be the final design, though. There are always a bunch of concepts that get thrown out in the early stages of announcement.
As for the dedicated cards. Not likely. Probably will be a little card you get in the store, it's activated at the register, and you scratch off the code to enter in on the PSN. That's how they did it with the PSP Go... and it sucks.
The article on IGN says the games will be on flash based media. Which I am certainly a fan of.
