Examine your main pcbs around the surface mount capacitors. I have seen a few pcbs with varying degrees of leakage from minor to trace destroying. I recommend cleaning them to remove the electrolyte and also changing the caps ASAP.
You'll notice a lot of dead pcbs for sale on ebay. I think this is the leading cause.
Also, it is just a hunch but I think this may have something to do with the seemingly inevitable loss of sound in Rev. X. I think the sound pcbs are fine but the motherboard isn't sending the data to the sound pcb. There are several caps in the area. I don't have the expertise to verify this 100%. If anyone does have the skills it would be great if you could test my theory on this.
