I don't get the 1080p mentions. The PS3 already supports 1080p. In fact, I can't stand how it downscales 720, so I only buy 1080p games.
It may support it, but doesn't mean the game is rendering in 1080.
The vast majority of PS3 games normally render to a 640p to 720p frame buffer and upscales to your selected output, which gives a blurriness to the result. The few games that do support a 1080 mode normally drop anti aliasing effects and frame rate to do it. Some games like Guitar Hero run as low as 1024x576. Ghostbusters ran at 960x540 with QAA, until a patch was released that improved it to 1024x576 with 2xAA instead of QAA.
There are only a few games and demos that actually render in 1080p. Even then, many 1080p games run at 1280x1080 at most, eg Gran Turismo 5. You can count the games that render in full 1920x1080 on the PS3 on one hand.
