PS3: Williams Pinball Collection

The pinball physics in these titles just don't seem 'real' enough. Unless this title is substantially better than PinMAME.

Short of the differences in available tables, are there any advantages to the various ports?

Edit: I just looked and I have this on Wii already. Ha. I didn't even know. I must have picked it up on sale once and never actually played it. Story of my life.

This is the precise reason that I've been working on a google docs database that I can sync to my android phone for when I'm at the store or a yard sale ;)

I'm pretty far along actually... The list doesn't seem nearly as long as I thought it would be, but then I haven't put in any Gamecube games yet, or my PC game storage container, or the N64 which is out in Colorado.... :D I might add my Steam contents as well, just in case I find a used PC game at a yard sale or junk shop.

I like this on wii so much I am searching for the 360 version now for the 3 extra tables. Great game I really hope the talk of another version is true!

The Wii version doesn't have a cpl tables I believe.. Like No Good Gophers and Medieval Madness?

I know I had the Wii, and had to buy the PS3 version..

Wii does not have either of those and I think is missing another I have heard Monster bash or Arabian nights? Not too sure but I will post when I get my 360 version!

The following pinball machines are included in all versions of the game (PS2, PSP, Wii, PS3 and 360):

  • Firepower
  • Funhouse
  • Gorgar
  • Pin*Bot
  • Space Shuttle

  • Whirlwind
The following are in the PSP, Wii, PS3 and 360 versions only:
  • Jive Time (Unlockable for PS3 and 360 versions)
  • Sorcerer
The following are in the PS3 and 360 versions only:

The physics are a LOT better. There are times of the ball moving Really fast, but not crazy like in PinMame. Its more like real pinball games where the same thing can happen. It happens with the same amount of regularity with exception of Whirlwind. Whirlwind's bumpers can make the ball travel at insane speeds, but it is manageable. There are no times where the ball with pass through the flippers, or maybe less than 1% chance. There are occasions where the ball with go out the side of the cabinet tho! xD

Self admitting trophy whore here, so I gotta ask; is there a platinum trophy for this game?

There isn't I don't think... They could have done a better job at the trophies. You get a trophy for getting Wizard on each table, but once you get it on the last one, you get one for completing all tables. So basically you get 2 trophies at once. I hope the new one does a better job with the trophies, but at least they aren't impossible to do, such as skill shots like in Funhouse. As the PS3 controller isn't sensitive enough to let you do skill shots, so they mostly become "luck" shots instead.

But anyways, this will probably be the only game I have all trophies for.

I have both the Wii and 360 versions. I've thought about going out and buying the old Gottlieb collection for PSP, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Anyone know how that one compares to the Williams one?

No platinum and as already mentioned the trophies are pretty lame. It would have been way better to apply a trophy for every goal but they didn't do that. I got all of them in a week after buying the game. Would have been more fun to slowly unlock them.

No offence to the Gottleib tables (nor their fans) but I have the Gottleib collection for GameCube and it sucks compared to the Williams collection. Only a handful of tables worth playing (Big Shot and Genie), a few okay Electro-Mechanicals (Aces High), and some tables that are nearly impossible to get goals on (Central Park and Black Hole).

Maybe I just suck but I found this collection not much fun compared to Williams.

I don't think it's nearly as good, partly the tables themselves (I'm more interested in newer stuff), and partly the camera angles aren't as good. I like Genie, but it's just harder to play because the angles. They really got it right in the Williams collection IMO.

There is a perfectly good reason why the Williams one is better than Gottlieb. Gottlieb came out first. They took what they learned from that and made it better for Williams version. I can't speak for the newer Gottlieb ports tho, just the PS2 versions.

Jivetime and sorcerer are bothg on my wii versin already! Maye I unlocked them but they are there.

I think JT is available on PSP and Wii from the start, but you have to unlock it for the PS3 and 360 versions for some reason.

Looked at my rankings and just getting started with it, but epic lulz there..

I put up a 68 million-ish score on Gophers this morning, puts me right at around the 550-ish mark, rank wise..top is over a BILLION? Christ.
