I've finally finished my games room. I have the retro on one side and the modern on the other. I've had the cabinet and racing seats for some time now, but after moving home in June they're finally in their proper place. I've been playing driving games since Pole position way back in '82, so I think I have some experience on the whole driving genre, arcade or otherwise. I've raced most of them...decently. I've also been gaming (arcade & console) for as long as I can remember.

Anyway, the playseats are running with Logitech G25s and PS3s. I'm intersted to know what you think is the best driving game on the PS3. My opinion is "driving"
(and I mean driving) the LMP1 Audi R10 on GRID Race driver beats everything else hands down. I'm more than a little gutted it is now no longer on PS3 online. Opinions please and reasons for choice, because I have some low opinions of the other high end contenders.

Thanks in advance.

Love your setup, hope to have one similar some day.

I am a big fan of GT-5, I am slowly beginning to play it after taking a break from console games.
Not sure if it fits with what your looking for though.

you NEED initial d extreme stage, its jp but if you buy the asia version its in english and the ps3 has no region lock. the jap version features online play but its a headache to get games and such since theres only so many us people playing

Initial d extreme stage isn't one that I've played but it looks like a drift type racer. I must say I've only really been taken by track racers and not drift style street racing. Haven't played anything on the Japanese drift stages of Grid, it just doesn't do anything for me. I don't mind driving on the asphalt stages in the original Dirt though.

ah, yeah its drifting but its a fun and very cool head to head local game. Check some youtube videos, it mimicks initial d arcade stage 4 so thats why I threw it out there

Very cool. I've thought about doing something similar, but idealy I'd buy up two non-working old driving cabs (Cruisin' USA probably) and make them work. Would be a pain, but would be fun to do.

I love Initial D, and I keep meaning to pick that one up. Your setup would definately help my burning desire to own a ID machine. But at some point, I will own a Ver 2 or 3.

Split second is my favorite ps3 racing game. It's not your generic racer. Your on a reality show where you have to destroy all of the other cars via remote bombs that blow up certin areas on the set. It's fun as hell with great graphics and an awsome soundtrack. Its also is under $20.00 Ya can't beat that shit with a stick.

I just recently bought a PS3, a G27, and built a quick and dirty racing seat set-up. Hooked it all up to my home theater. Really loving it so far! I've been playing the heck out of Need for Speed: Shift 2. It takes some fiddling with the controls and tuning since the stock set-up sucks bad for some reason. Once you get that figured out though, it's pretty awesome. I think it gets overlooked because people just don't take the time to get that sorted out before dismissing it.

I also picked up Hot Pursuit for more arcade style action. Haven't played it a ton yet, but it seems like it will be a blast.

Then again my 4 year old is obsessed with Little Big Planet, so that's about all I get to play lately... :)

How did you go about hooking up for multiplayer racing? Did you have to go with 2 seperate PS3s and network them? Can you do a local network, or do you have to go "online" to race eachother? I'd love to have the capability for 2 players, but not sure I want to drop all that money on a second set-up with its own screen and everything. Sure would be fun though!

You can play LAN on GRID up to the number of ports, not so sure about the other earlier ones. The later games are only playable from the online servers. I tried one of the NFS games for about an hour and never returned to it - I think I may be being too disciplined or serious on these driving games. I honestly have to say I've never looked into the more fun type racers. Strictly realistic for me, as you can see from the set up.

I was really looking for opinions on GT5 and the F1 series. The F1 series has a real steering problem. The majority rave about it and I'm wondering am I the only one noticing there is an issue with the steering on it. GT5 is the same for that matter.

This is my choice for PS3 drivers as well ^^^

Xbox 360 lap for Japan by Jonathan Hughes (Gr1PP1nG) - as close as you can be at 1/100th of a second! I don't have the benefit of drafting since this has been set on the test drive. I wonder what would happen if I had?
